Rep. Gohmert: Did No One Else in Aurora Theater Have a Gun?
ABC/Yahoo ^ | 7/20/2012 | Chris Good

Posted on 07/21/2012 4:49:48 AM PDT by markomalley

The shooting could have been limited if someone else in the Aurora, Colo., movie theater had been carrying a gun, Texas Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert said today.

Gohmert reacted to the shooting, which left 12 dead, during an interview this morning on the radio program Ernest Istook Live! From The Heritage Foundation.

"Well it does make me wonder, you know with all those people in the theater, was there nobody that was carrying that could've stopped this guy more quickly?" Gohmert said. "I mean in Tyler, Texas, we had-my hometown-we had a shooter come in over a domestic matter, and just start shooting people. And it was a guy with a concealed carry-he got killed, but his shooting at this guy caused him to run and no doubt saved a lot of lives. He was a real hero."

Colorado allows residents to obtain concealed carry permits, according to the Colorado State Patrol website.

"I know that before we ever had concealed carry in Texas, there was a, just a senseless shooting years ago in Killeen, Texas, in a restaurant, and, you know, if we had had concealed carry permits at the time, there was a woman who had to leave her gun in her car, and if we'd had concealed carry the guy would've been stopped before he could've killed so many people," Gohmert said.

True. A gun wouldn’t have taken down the shooter.
But!
If the shooter knew that everyone in that theater was carrying a gun, he may not have entertained the thought of going on a shooting rampage.

(Unless he’s suicidal)

Bad guys have guns.
It time for good guys to carry one too. EVERYWHERE.

Gee, where can I git’ me one of them “100 round mags?” ....I don’t think you’d want one. The poundage would be so heavy, you’d have a hard time swinging and aiming it.

Wideners, Sportsman's Guide and many sources. There are the traditional drum type mags but check out this offering from Brownells.

There is not a magazine in existence that ever killed anyone... pinched a finger... cut a finger... but I have never heard of a death caused by one. People kill... let's outlaw those sumbiches shall we?!

There were reports that the theater had signs posted that disallowed guns inside, regardless of their legality outside (I don’t know the law there).

“Fish in a barrel” comes to mind.

The theater has a strict no firearms allowed policy.

Theater policy: NO GUNS IN THE THEATER !

I wonder if they'll charge him with violating theater policy.

I’d be surprised if the theater was not designated by the owners as a “no gun” zone.

make gun ownership a requirement or pay a tax.

That would make it a penalty, wouldn't it?

Oh, wait...

This brings up my question - when the mass murderer opened (and then propped opened the exit door to return), the exit door why didn't an alarm go off? Aren't all movie theaters the same - you enter and leave through the front door and the exit doors have alarms and are only used for emergencies, i.e.like fire.

So if the movie theater didn't have an alarm rigged to the exit doors, their patrons are indeed 'fish in a barrel' as this incident shows and they give the patrons no protection along w/not allowing them to protect themselves with their strict no firearm policy.

IMO the problem with our society is that the democrats were allowed to defund and shut down the insane asylums! This crazy guys mother knew he was off and it didn’t matter. the way the laws are unless he hurt someone else you cant committ them for help. His mother knew he was crazy and if she could have had him committed this whole thing could have been avoided. Same thing with the crazy guy who shot the rep. down in arizona. that guy was obviously phsycho but as the family of that person you can’t get them help. you have to wait for them to kill someone!

They why no alarm or security at the exit doors to prevent ‘propping door open’. The theater failed miserably at protecting it’s patrons, IMO.

Thanks all for the replies

Guess since I only own an old .30-.30 lever action; 12 gauge pump and a Glock .40, I've been out of touch and didn't realize there were such high capacity mags available (or legal).

Looks like I'm going to have to check into upgrading my "arsenal" as I can see the benefit of owning something like that, the way things are going.

If you were there with a gun, was it your duty to shoot the man?

OK, so I guy walks into the theater carrying a gas mask, a Remington 870, an AR-15 and a sidearm and wearing protective gear.

How is it possible that nobody noticed this?

If he was carrying the stuff in a bag, it had to be a BIG bag.

So why didn’t anybody ask, “Hey, pal, what’s in the bag?”

My friend has one for his AR-15. It’s two round drums a side.
