An officer-involved shooting in this Orange County city that left an unarmed man dead and led to a violent clash between witnesses and police has stirred anger for a second night.

Protesters gathered near the shooting scene Sunday night and expressed their outrage by setting fire to a Dumpster and moving it into the street numerous times as police monitored the scene from a helicopter.

The tense scene followed a day of protest where a crowd stormed the Anaheim Police headquarters' lobby as the police chief prepared to hold a news conference to discuss the case.

The protesters chanted "no justice, no peace" and "cops, pigs, murderers" as officers stood by and watched.

The police are agents of the state........an out of control government declares martial law and sends these police door to door to round up guns

I guess you should move to my small city then. No one in my department is an "agent of the [federal] state" nor are we going to take orders from said "federal state" to "round anyone up". I'm paid to enforce local and state laws, there is no law that exists that makes me a subordinate automaton to any federal entity. This isn't Europe, where the police are federal police. Here in the us the local & county police are separate from the us gov't.
In all likelihood the feds would attempt to subvert our police authority completely and probably issue a decree disbanding all local police in the USA. The black helicopters arrive and they're not going to go to the dumb beat cops and give them MIB credentials and secret alien equipment.
Anyway, I know of no police in the surrounding towns that would turn into evil decepticons and rape and pillage and kill the local citizenry like nazi ss if the Big Giant Obama Head suddenly told us to do so on our in-car computers.

Everyone should withhold comment until they watch the video.

I am sure more video of the incident will be posted in the next few days.

This article and video are from Saturday’s coverage of the incident. Other articles about events on Sunday are at the OC Register. http://www.ocregister.com

Through searching for articles, it appears that the local stories in this case give a better picture of what happened.

If you wait until the story hits the AP or Reuters the story is washed of important details.

Fatal police shooting incites melee in Anaheim

http://www.ocregister.com/news/dunn-364896-officer-police.html

About 4 p.m., officers chased three men for unknown reasons and caught up to one of them in front of an apartment complex in the 700 block of North Anna, Dunn reported.
“At that time the officer-involved shooting occurred,” he said.
Neighbors and friends, however, demanded answers, asking for Anaheim Police Chief John Welter to show up and address the crowd.
“We were all waiting for him to come and talk to the community and give us an explanation. Why kill this man?” said Yesenia Rojas, a 34-year-old woman who lives in the neighborhood and said she knew the man as a good person.
Dunn said the officers shot the bean bags and pepper balls because the crowd was getting too close to the officers who were trying to detain a person suspected of being with a group that attempted to throw a bottle or rock at police.

Police reportedly tried to buy any video taken by witnesses on their cellphones. Dunn said that he didn’t know whether the allegations were true. He said it’s unclear whether it’s against Anaheim Police policy to do so but said that the agency would look into the matter.

In the past, Dunn said, that officers will ask for cellphone video as evidence, but that he doesn’t know of instances where officers would pay for it.

You are an agent of the state. You are paid by taxes collected for that purpose and ultimately report to the governor of the state although I suspect your chain of command gets a bit complicated. It does not matter if you are an agent of the Federal or State government if you think about it for more than a few minutes.

The black helicopters arrive and they're not going to go to the dumb beat cops and give them MIB credentials and secret alien equipment.

You are trying to make it sound silly but the federal government has been providing "local" law enforcement with military grade weaponry for years. I'm sure you know of a swat team with an APC (or two) and belt fed machine guns, and while I'm of the mind that people should be able to buy whatever it is they can afford, I'm not fond of agents of the state being armed better than citizens. I also don't like the way "local" police have started calling citizens "civilians" as if the local police were in the military or something.

Anyway, I know of no police in the surrounding towns that would turn into evil decepticons and rape and pillage and kill the local citizenry like nazi ss if the Big Giant Obama Head suddenly told us to do so on our in-car computers.

History is filled with examples counter to your point and while you may think "It could never happen here" that's what all the people were saying where it historically has happened. One way to prevent this growing problem is to make sure that the police only have those weapons they need to do their job, and to make sure citizens have legal access to those same weapons and more. Citizens are supposed to be, after all, the largest check against an out of control government.

When agents of "the state" whether "local" state or federal have significantly better arms than that of citizens, when citizens start to have their ability to lawfully purchase arms clearly infringed, when governments begin colluding to deprive citizens of arms, then it's not long before something serious is going to happen. I hope for all of our sakes that you are correct that the "local" police will be part of the solution and not part of the problem.

Like many other regions, Disneyland and the greedy restaurant/hotel owners loved the government dumping tons of low wage illegal labor in their laps. They get their hotels cleaned for cheap, restaurants staffed with employees making 1980s wages etc.

They could care less what chaos this creates for private sector America.

Watching the video i see a really big problem with the AP, et al, stories ~ particularly the police story.

Guy is behind a big fence. "They" said he ran down an alley.

Sure, right ~ another story says he was shot at the front entrance to the apartment building.

But that's not the front entrance.

Raising questions of (1) Where was he shot, (2) Did the cops drag/carry his body around the fence before the guy with the video cam came along, (3) Why were they putting up police line tape so far from the site of the killing if, in fact, that's where it took place, (4) Which gets us back to the question of where was he shot ~ where is the area they need to control, what did they do with the people living right there who may have come out to see what happened.

The cop story really doesn't hang together yet so we'll need to keep our eyes on this one.

Where is the K-9 unit right then, or did they come later, and for what? Who opened the dog's cage? I"m pretty sure it wasn't the dog eh.

Remember this?

"Ok, let's put a flash mob here, and a dumpster burning there, and now we turn off the lights."

"Hey, I've got an idea. Leave the lights on at just that house."

Sounds like one more step down the road to civil unrest, race riots, martial law, cancelled elections and dictatorship to me.

I heard that on Dec 21, 2012, our new Socialist overlords are going to announce the end of the sovereign United States, and the new office of Grand Dictator of the Western Hemisphere.

Who takes a baby and kids to a potential violent protest???

I'm thinking these parents aren't real smart.

I used to live in Anaheim....grew up there. Used to be a nice place to live. Most of it is Northern Mexico now.

From the phrase “spilled into the neighborhood”, I figured that the people sitting on the grass with a baby carriage were just caught up in the mess.

Used to be Mexico in fact. When my folks were first out there messing around with furs, the place was run by Spain, and then Mexico.

Doesn't ever surprise me to find hispanics in California ~ particularly along the old rivers.

I grew up with plenty of kids named Garcia, Flores, Hernandez, etc....They spoke perfect English. Their parents spoke English.

It's NOT the same now....

We are talking about a particular neighborhood. It looks to be one of the oldest parts of Orange county ~ it’s still that way there.

Within the last 5 or 6 years, plus I used Google.com to get a ground level view to see what it's like.

And, you were there when? And do you have pictures?

>You are woefully ignorant in this case ~

1) I am not “woefully ignorant and your post is outright rude.

>if they did this in your neighborhood ~ shoot an unarmed man, then fire rubber bullets into the crowd of neighbors who came around to see what was happening, you would be agitated.

I am not defending the police here, but in MY neighborhood we do NOT crowd into the street with flaming dumpsters when there is a problem.

Rioting in the streets sounds seriously like a 3rd world country - or inner city - which may be a small difference to be sure.

And thats the way that it is, thank you.

The flaming dumpster wasn't an issue until after the shooting started.

It's always best to prepare yourself by first reading the stories and figuring out the time line.

Again, in my neighborhood we don't have a dumpster handy, and neither did they ~ it was ACROSS on the other side of the main drag to the North in a small shopping center. Some kids dragged it across the street (probably had wheels).

What were they supposed to do to stop the shooting? Maybe call the Anaheim police?
