‘Dark Knight’ massacre suspect wants to know how the movie ended

James Holmes, accused of killing a dozen people at a midnight screening of “The Dark Knight Rises,” wants to know how the film ended.

“Did you see the movie?” a creepy-sounding Holmes asked a stunned jail worker during a bizarre exchange Tuesday. “How does it end?”

Holmes, his eyes glazed and his voice flat, repeated the question when the worker ignored him, according to another jail employee who witnessed the incident in the infirmary.

Holmes, a 24-year-old ex-honor student, “was trying to look like he was sincerely curious,” the witness recounted to the Daily News.

“Like he had no idea why there was anything wrong with what he was saying. It was sick ... I think he’s trying real hard to act crazy.”

Public shaming and shunning of the overly exploitative is about the best we can hope in this open society. Tabloid type coverage will sell to narrow niche audiences. Tabloids will also be equally glad to cover the agony of the victims and their families, as the horror of the attack.

Ultimately, I believe that airing the story of great evil does more good to society than suppressing it. Aired, it can serve as a warning.

I remain unconvinced that shunning the overly exploitive will accomplish anything.  It's a decent thought.  And truth be told, I think you and I are the ones headed for the classification as sub-culture.

There is cause for you to think that airing stories helps.  Note that citizens are buying guns at an accelerated rate.  That's due in no small part the the Colorado incident and the calls for gun control.  However, it wasn't due to the movie which isn't out yet.

I will note that the telling of the 09/11 incidents for instance, don't actually include all there was to know about the perps.  We get this sanitized version that eliminates the idea we need to keep and eye on some groups.

It does further the idea we need to be watched at airports, but doesn't make any mention of the idea it might be better if we didn't allow people from terrorist nations or regions to come here.  I'm not convinced you have made your case.

Yes the movies are somewhat informative, but the information presented is selective.  And the movies can easily and often are more propagandist against our true interests, than they are for them.

If anything, I don't think we are more resilient because of these movies, but more resilient despite these movies because we have done our home-work.

We must have a mailing address for the murderer. I'll bet we can come up with thousands of endings things to say to him.

Keep talking, buddy. This shows he was aware of the situation and will work against his planned insanity defense.

I am convinced, however, that your point is moot because you (and I) are in fact not emperors.

That doesn’t eliminate the fact that there are some severe problems with free speech these days. Just one example: The Media is free to lie it’s ass off to the American public.

Tell me how that’s working out for us.

You are arguing on sound principle, and we’re still losing the war.

Look at how this nation has declined over the last 25 years. Should the mainstream media be allowed to spew misrepresentations to the American public? After all, that’s First Amendment protected.

We have a populace that is misled by by the media to the point that it hasn’t a clue how badly Obama and the entire body of the Left has screwed the nation.

Whether it be the MSM, our schools, or Leftist politicians, their lies are all protected, and our nation is going down to a large extent because of their guaranteed First Amendment rights.

What the resolution to these problems are, I don’t honestly know, but there is a major destructive problem here.

So we can wax rhapsodic on the First Amendment, something I am inclined to support to the bitter end, but I don’t think any of us are supposed to stand by and allow the Left to kill us by using guaranteed freedoms against us.

You are speaking as only one with imperial powers would be making any sense to speak. You might as well complain about the arrangement of the stars in Andromeda.

And you might just as well stick your head in the sand and refuse to look at the reality that is entrenched around us.

I said I didn’t know how to fix what is wrong. So far, you haven’t even acknowledged there is anything wrong.

If I said we do not have a perfect system at hand, I would only belabor the obvious.

Priorities, priorities. As it goes in the serenity prayer... and wisdom to know the difference.

That was the flaw of your flawless plan., boy. Should’ve waited until the credits before you started shooting. Now you’ll never know.

(But under the prison cultural programs, you’ll get to see it eventually, if you can spare the time while studying for your Ph.D on the taxpayers’ dime.)

I believe there is a lot of wisdom expressed by that prayer.

On the other hand, we have arrived at a time today, when we simply cannot be content to dismiss existing conflicts from our mind, because there’s no easy fix.

The Left is gaming us, and we cannot afford to allow that to continue.

So the question is, are we talking wisdom here, or simply conflict avoidance?

We are at war on our own soil, and so far our allies don’t even acknowledge there is one taking place.

There’s plenty of wisdom in the prayer, yup, and there really isn’t any “on the other hand” about it.

You appear to be talking about nothing less than a jihad at the heart of the 1st amendment. Rotsa ruck, count me out.

As Ann Coulter put it, at the least it would make society wiser to understand what fueled an inexplicable killer like Holmes (there, I mentioned him). How can we (as private citizens, not some gummit bureau) spot other such killers in time to guard against their menace.

I reviewed our discussion, and I do believe I got off base by expanding the discussion beyond the issue of whether it was appropriate to make a movie about the Colorado massacre or not. For that and any characterizations of you based on that, I apologize.

My comments in the post at this link stand. So does your reaction.

If you want to reference me as an emperor-wanna-be or reference my views in the post as taking a butcher knife to the U. S. Constitution so be it.

There is no reasoned argument to be made for making a gory blood spewing play by play HD movie depicting bodies and body parts flying.

If someone wants to write a book in an effort to get the facts out there, I would find that acceptable. The visual impact would not exist. The public does have a right to know the details. I do think it is reasoned to get them out there. I still do not back turning this effort into some form of entertainment.

Unbelievable article written by a Chicago ‘Lib-une’ Tribune columnist Steve Chapman, who usually follows the lib party line but this time explains very well how more gun laws will not do anything.
