Why do you think homosexual "rights" is such a political steamroller?
Gay men are electorally insignificant (1.5% or so). In a recent survey, same-sex male couples were 14.5% - IN THE CASTRO. Same-sex households are 0.6% nationwide.
So it's not the numbers.
Obviously, since politicians exist only for votes, this issue is enormously popular with non-homosexuals.
Why?
It's an emotional issue, and so it fits into the liberal's favored tactics. They want to bait you into doing something irrational or intemperate, and then they they'll crucify you with it.
