Just working up a post for another board elsewhere about jail and prison death rates.

The poster's challenge was that murder rates in prison must be much lower than on the outside because nobody has a gun or other weapon.

Turns out the US murder rate is about 4.5 people per 100,000 per year. The murder rate in jail is upwards of 47.0 people per 100,000 per year!

Where nobody has a weapon and where they are intensely guarded and restricted the murder rate is OVER TEN TIMES what it is under conditions of freedom where 270,000,000 people wander about with firearms, and 320,000,000 have easy access to sharp objects, knives, frirbrands, poison, high cliffs and buildings (to push people off of) and so on.

Jail is not as safe as real life.

Thanks for the information; I believe it.

It may be because they throw sheep in with wolves, and the fact that the rest of the prison population not directly involved are, to some extent, complicit in advance knowledge of the ‘plan’ but do nothing about it.

In other words, 100,000 people in jail, are nothing like the average 100,000 of the normal population. That’s why they are in prison in the first place.

Say what?!? No weapons in prisons? That's the same mentality as those who claim poor widdle Trayvon was unarmed. All he needed was his fists and the ground to nearly kill Zimmerman. Kiddo here took a box of confiscated makeshift prison weapons to school for a show and tell (yes, the principal was all for it). If you have nothing to do 24/7 then you have to make your own entertainment such as rubbing a plastic spoon or toothbrush on the floor until it wears down to a nice sharp point to stab someone with. Texas prisons don't serve bone-in pork chops anymore because one inmate stabbed another one to death with the bone.
