In 2004, as Governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney banned the sale of assault weapons like the one used to spray 50-60 bullets a minute in the Colorado massacre.
On FOX News, Romney explained his position as follows:
"I believe the people should have the right to bear arms, but I don’t believe that we have to have assault weapons as part of our personal arsenal."
That seems like a perfectly reasonable position, no?
(Seriously: Do we really need to be able to buy and own these things? Is that really in the best interests of our society? Really?)
Unfortunately, in the intervening years, Romney has flip-flopped and now supports the sale of assault weapons like the one used in the Colorado massacre.
But the families of those who were shot and killed in the theater can presumably take some comfort from the fact that Romney was against these guns before he was for them.

In the defense of conservatism

He is mentally unstable. He cannot find one sentence during the primaries in which I ever defended Romney. He claims I gave him money. That is a lie. I wanted a ticket of Newt/Bachmann. I may or may not vote for Romney. Since I am in Kalifornia, I have that option because Kalifornia is lost.
He has become more than just an annoyance here. His opinion is clearly not going to influence anyone because it is of no value. Perhaps he believes people will see him as clever because he puts up the same graphics on every Romney thread. I’d like to read those threads without the burden of the same crap posted over and over and over.
To clear the record, I have been accused of pitching for Romney here and on DU. Does anyone believe they would ever let me on their forum? They hate me as much as they have ever hated anyone.
I have challenged Diogenius to find a citation where I have pitched for Romney. I don’t particularly like him and may or may not vote for him. My focus is doing what it takes to stop Obama because this country’s future is at stake.
It is unfortunate that Romney will be the nominee. It was unfortunate that McCain was a nominee. We are stuck with what we have. Fortunately, being in Kalifornia allows me to vote my conscience. If I were in a close state, I would have to bite my lip and vote for Romney. The alternative is unthinkable.
Perhaps one or two people might take Diogenius serious if he actually made a reasoned point a couple times instead of posting the same crap over and over. Some here are actually capable of framing a well-reasoned argument against Romney.

We cannot give into the losing is winning. I own a small business and use whatever money I can appropriate to put to the people and causes that will best affect change. Free Republic being one at the top.
Obama winning again so I can feel better about myself = what? My business will not survive another 4 years of Obama which means I can give zero to Col West, Scott Walker, Michelle Bachmann etc... This battle is so much bigger than Mitt Romneys sins.
