Former Vice President Dick Cheney said President Barack Obama is “one of our weakest presidents” and worse than Jimmy Carter.

“Obviously, I’m not a big fan of President Obama,” Cheney said in an interview that aired Monday on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” “I think he’s been one of our weakest presidents. I fundamentally disagree with him, philosophically. You’d be hard put to find any Democratic president that I’ve disagreed with more.”

“Worse than Jimmy Carter, from your perspective?” ABC’s Jon Karl asked him.

“Yes.”

Cheney, whose hard line on terrorism came to define his public image, gave the president some credit.

“I wouldn’t say he’s been soft on terror, but I think he’s made a number of mistakes,” he said. “Bin Laden, fine. A lot of that intelligence that laid the groundwork for what ultimately led to the capture of bin Laden was a result of programs we had in place in the Bush administration.”

I disagree with Cheney about Palin BUT I think his motivation was to try and send a message to Romney to pick a strong candidate and not worry about being upstaged by his VP

When Bush picked Cheney considering his background it was a given that Cheney would have a strong role in his administration

I think Cheney is telling Romney to do the same thing

As far as Palin she would have been an improvement on McCain
Cheney could have gotten his message to Romney without using her as a ploy

Some of you are just as full of venom as romney. I have problems with dick cheney... yes I do. He embraces homosexual marriage, which goes against my deeply held belief in GOD and his SON JESUS and what they have taught us.

There was absolutely no reason for cheney to bring up Sarah Palin... no reason in the world. The jerk could have used joe biden as a prime example... but he had a purpose. His agenda was to further damage Palin’s reputation because she is the only viable Conservative threat to jeb bush and the gop/e machine.

He deflected ALL responsibility for the 5 TRILLION dollars that he and bush spent in deficit... growing this government and he projected their guilt upon Palin in blaming her for obama winning. mccain lost because he is a progressive arsehole with a huge ego and a temper that is far beyond normal. When he suspended his campaign... America knew that he didn't want to win. They turned on him. The Republic voted for obama because they hated bush and cheney and bought into the lies of the left. Rightfully or wrongfully... bush ended up at 27% approval... cheney was at 13%. Those numbers tell the story.

What is pathetic is that you and others will accept and applaud attacks upon someone that IS TRULY ONE OF US... cheney never was and now we know the truth. BTW... his own daughter went public against what he said... and she stated she had no idea why he did it. I do... he did it to protect jeb bush for 2016 and/or beyond.

I will not vote for romney unless he does something drastic that will bind him to a Conservative agenda... and he will not... and on my sacred honor... I will NEVER vote for another bush as long as I live. I do not believe in dynasties and certainly not a progressive dynasty.

Sarah Palin is great. I love her and wouldn't be averse to her being in the White House, but the sun doesn't rise and set with her, she's not the conservative messiah, and she isn't perfect . . . and she isn't immune to criticism--and she is still deserving of it on occasion.

If you were honest with yourself-neither McCain nor Palin were qualified.McCain was running his mouth in 68 and beyond. Palin had no clue where certain foreign countries were just like a kid who failed geography. She was not very bright about history either.I hate to admit it but Romney got an MBA plus a JD from Harvard and he was not AA.

Man you need to go back and reread this thread and read your words and then read the posts that I made to you and tell me... who is attacking and who is discussing. I am being tough on cheney and he is a public figure making a public statement and the First Amendment gives me the right to fight back against his ignorance and deceit. You are a fellow FReeper and I will not attack you personally. I do not take this personally. I strive not to make personal remarks to FReepers... but cheney made a public statement that even forced his own daughter to come to Palin’s defense and I will state whatever my opinion of him is... he is a public official that I have invested a lot of my own money into electing and I have the right as a citizen to make whatever critique of him that I feel necessary. Sarah Palin is just a woman who loves America and has great leadership skills. She is working her butt off to promote Conservatism and good candidates and she is also taking on the pop culture to do it. She is the biggest Conservative force outside of government and she did not deserve the remarks that cheney made.

My point was that he should have used the opportunity to point out what a cretin the dims have installed as VP and how unqualified for the position that he is and how important that it is that romney not make the same kind of mistake that obama did. Instead, he decided it was an opportune time to attack Sarah Palin to make his point. I believe that he did so to keep the right wing out of power and influence within the party and to set the stage for a future jeb bush run for the presidency.
