Kofi Annan announced on Thursday that he was stepping down as the UN-Arab Leagues special envoy to Syria, partly blaming finger-pointing within the United Nations for the lack of progress in the 17-month-old crisis. . . .

The UN is a joke. Annan should try to get a beer vendor job at one of America’s many ballparks. The UN is a waste of his time.
Kofi Annan should stand trial in Iraq.
You arent far off....my mother and her sister when to Macalaster college at the same time Annan did...and they recall him selling hotdogs from a cart in those days. (Seems fitting...he is a big weenie!)
ROTFL! That’s great. I wonder why he decided to step down from weiner vendor to the UN job. Most try to move up as they get older. LOL!
Annan quit because he understands and now accepts the futility of:
trying to keep the warring parties apart.
thinking Russia and China and Iran would stop supporting al-Assad.
trying to stop the US, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey from militarizing the militias and FSA.
Annan also now understands the ages-old depth of hatred between the FSA/Sunni’s, Hezbollah, Alawites, Druze, Christians and Kurds. The Muslim Brotherhood and AQ have privately and internally pledged to exterminate the Alawites and any group that has associated with them, like the Christians.
Two days ago the FSA executed Zeino Berri, leader of the very powerful (Sunni) Berri tribe. Now it is Sunni killing Sunni. The Berri tribe is known for drug-trafficking and gun-running in Aleppo. At the start of the revolt they pledged loyalty to al-Assad and their militia brutalized and controlled Aleppo. Now there will be cycles of revenge for years.
I have always believed that the potential for internecine fighting was far greater in Syria than between Palestine and Israel.
Annan knows a bloodbath is coming of historical proportions. There will be no quarter.

What’ll we do now? Hand ring. Hand ring. Sob./sarc
Why isn’t he standing trial in Iraq?
He should be standing trial for the Oil for whatever Saddam wanted scandal. His son should be right there with him.
So why isn’t he?
He was kinda bitchy about it, too. It was a perfectly apropos end to his internationalist career.
Perhaps someone told Annan he would be wise to leave the country and leave public service?
