Democrats appear ready to embrace same-sex marriage as part of their party platform, a policy shift that reflects an expanded acceptance of gay rights in mainstream politics.
The move would place the party in line with the beliefs of President Obama, who in May became the first sitting president to declare that gay men and lesbians should be able to marry.
Democratic Party officials had squabbled over the issue in the past. But at a platform-drafting meeting over the weekend in Minneapolis, they approved the first step to amend their platform, placing the amendment on track for adoption. In two weeks, the entire platform committee will vote at a meeting scheduled in Detroit. Then, if approved as expected, it would go before convention delegates in Charlotte, N.C., for final passage in early September.
According to Democrats who were briefed on the vote in Minneapolis, there was no objection when the issue came up. Though the language that was voted on could still be revised, party officials do not anticipate any major obstacles going forward.
The platform language approved over the weekend also reiterated the party’s disapproval of the Defense of Marriage Act, which prohibits the federal government from recognizing legal same-sex marriages. The 2008 platform had a similar section.

Agreed. Nail in coffin? Nope. It will just not matter to most and for those it does weren’t gonna vote for the RATS anyway.
It’s going to have no effect at all on the Dem vote. And Romney hasn’t said a thing against it, and in fact forced state personnel to perform “gay marriages” during his term as Gov. of MA, where he was known as the “godfather of gay marriage.”
So don’t be surprised if the GOP adds the same plank or at any rate does not defend legitimate marriage in any way in its own platform.
All I can I do is watch as they self-destruct. They really act like they have gone psychotic.

An eternally open season on killing unborn babies in the womb for any reason, throughout all nine months is in the platform. This doesn’t bother the overwhelming majority of Democrats, so why would openly endorsing gay marriage make more than a small dent?
This firms up his base, a large percentage of which is Gay, or who are so profoundly hostile to traditional Judeo Christian values that they love to support things that run contrary to these values. Still, this continuous emphasis on the cultural wars by Obama and his supporters shows how desperate they are.
The Democrats have done their homework on focus groups and polling...they are convinced that through this addition of “tolerance” to their platform...and by tarring Romney as Richy Rich...they will pull out just enough electoral votes to win.
I’m not sure they’re wrong. Much of the country has degenerated and accepted Hollywood morals.
I grew up in the fifties and early sixties...can’t recognize this country anymore. The pondscum are in charge.

Democrats are going all out to show how they accept Obama and his kind.
I’d hit them with this all down the line in every state (especially “Red States”) all the way down to Dog Catcher. Maybe it will allow Republicans to win a few more!
