Group urges convention delegates to 'Dump Romney'
Augusta Free Press ^ | August 10, 2012

Posted on 08/12/2012 9:19:53 AM PDT by delacoert

A social-conservative group is using Mitt Romney’s Mormon beliefs and his record as Massachusetts governor to urge GOP convention delegates to “Dump Romney.”

A memo being circulated by the “Dump Romney” group argues that, given the weak U.S. economy, Romney ought to be leading Democratic incumbent Barack Obama in the polls, instead of trailing by as many as nine points, as the most recent Fox News poll has the race right now.

The group says Republican convention delegates are not bound by convention rules to vote for Romney, and that first-ballot abstentions could lead to the selection of a stronger national ticket in later convention rounds.

A key to the “Dump Romney” effort is anti-Mormon in nature. A press release from the group brings up issues with the Mormon religion including its “exotic beliefs” that the Garden of Eden was in Missouri and that Jesus is Satan’s brother to paint the picture that independent and Republican voters in swing states in the Bible belt like Virginia and North Carolina will desert the GOP in droves.

The press release also calls Romney “America’s Founding Father of Gay Marriage” for the same-sex weddings that were authorized by Massachusetts courts during his time as governor.

The memo, titled “Dump Romney: Why Tampa’s Republican Delegates must Dump Romney to Defeat Obama,” is available on Amazon.com and DumpRomney.org. It was produced by a group called Jews and Christians Together, and edited by Sara and David Bethel.

The aim of the “Dump Romney” movement is to “provide thoughtful, responsible and dutiful Republican delegates with a pathway out of their and our nation’s very serious problem, that the Republican Party is on the brink of nominating a sure loser,” said Steve Baldwin, a contributor and former executive director of the Council for National Policy, a Washington, D.C.,-based conservative think tank.

I understand you want to put the blame for Romney on the GOP-e (which clearly did pull out all the stops in support of Mittens), but unless you have evidence that the GOP-e *forced* Gingrich, Perry, Santorum, and Bachmann to run against each other and to not drop out while Romney skated by in state after state with a minority of the vote, then the fact is: We conservatives did this to ourselves by splitting our votes among so many candidates.

"are you not aware of that?"

I'm aware that the Obama team (aided and abetted by the legacy media) is inspiring that propaganda. It isn't accurate, though.

A vote for Willard is a vote for more Obama fascism.

The GOP-e not only pulled out all the stops in Virginia they changed the rules at the last minute ~ in effect, they cheated.

Mitt showed us the kind of man he is by keeping his mouth shut in the face of this atrocity.

We already got his kinda' folks in government. We don't need another one.

I've been saying DUMP MITT for quite some time.

Well, I know that you don't really mean that to sound the way it might seem at first to sound to some people who don't know better. ;^)

But you’re in FL not VA. And VA is the issue. Virgil is polling in the 9% range here. Willard chose VA to announce his VP pick. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

Personally I think he wanted to select someone else but his hand was forced. He and his associated PACs are spending a fortune here and have little to show for it.

The race was already over *before* VA. And why? Because we conservatives split our votes among so many candidates? Do you dispute this?

There may be an exception or two, but I believe in every state Mittens won, he did so with a minority of the vote. And that if the conservative vote had not been split among four, three, and then two other candidates, Romney would have lost. Do you dispute this as well?

They are too stupid to realize how the polls are being manipulated with severe over-polling of Democrats.

BS. It is an Obama inspired wedge group.

Virtually every word of their grievences has been taken verbatim from posts on this forum. I have no doubt the people behind this movement are Freepers.

Those who oppose dumping mitt for a more Conservative candidate smell like stinky liberal behinds. Only an anti-hunting faggot would be against the delegates dumping mitt and putting Ryan at the top.

Are you sirius? Good grief.

Thank you for a common sense reply to this thread. I agree completely. Let’s just hope that the Romney/Ryan coat tails are enough to take back the Senate....

1200 days yeaterday that the Senate has failed to pass a budget. That is something they ought to rub in the Democrats faces....

...one does offer hope whereas the other does not, at all.

You're one confusing guy.

Hope and Change or Hope to Change?

(keep hope alive /JJ impression)

Virginia held its primary at the same time as the highly touted SUPER TUESDAY series of primaries.

The evil deed was done in Virginia ~ and there weren't a lot of Conservative Republicans on the ballot. In fact there were NONE ~ not even real Republicans made it through the little gauntlet the Mittbots had set up.

We had an historic LOW TURNOUT.

You ain't just a kiddin'. The only chance Romney had was to call a big screeching halt to events in Virginia early on AND HE DIDN'T.

Somebody out there tell me who knows ~ a Bishop perhaps ~ is it Mormon morality to keep what's been stolen even when you've been found out?

I think I KNow the answer here so let me pronounce my judgment on Romney ~ he's not even a very good Mormon.

And if they don't answer my question, you'll see what part of the problem may be.

And Ryan is the perfect candidate to do it. He has intimate knowledge of the budget, and he's NOT a Senator. PLUS he led the effort to pass the budget in the House.

And the irony is, he might have even won in a fair fight. But that fair fight wasn’t to be had. And willard won the rigged election with less than 2% of the VA population showing up to vote for him.

OK. Just remind the people in Red and Purple states that they shouldn’t follow your example in this forlorn hope of a protest vote. You can write off VA as solid Blue, but there are states that can’t afford to waste votes on Goode or the other guy. Its bad enough that the dead will be voting Obama, so we sure can’t afford to lose the living in the Red/Purple states.

Folks, it won’t make a bit of difference who you vote for or which one wins. Just as with Bush-Gore and Bush-Kerry, one will push us to Socialisn while the other will “invite” us there. Both candidates are puppets of George Soros and will do whatever George wants whenever he wants it done.

Do you have some favorite person you think would make a good President? Sarah? Alan West? Mickey Mouse? Vote for him/her. Your chances of backing a winner would be about the same as the chance of avoiding the socialistic nightmare that’s coming.

I believe it was Joe Stalin who said something like ‘it matters less who gets the most votes as who counts the votes.’ Remember, the votes are going to be counted by a Spanish company owned by George Soros.

Have a nice election...
