The alternative to Mitt Romney
Tea Party Nation ^ | August 12, 2012 | Judson Phillips

In some conservative quarters, the question is still being asked, “What is our alternative to Mitt Romney?”

Some people are suggesting voting for the Libertarian Candidate or even the guy from the Constitution Party who may only end up on the ballot in one or two states.

There is an alternative to Mitt Romney, if you are looking for one.

Who is it?

It is Barack Obama.

No, that is not a joke.

Absent some almost unprecedented or at least unpredictable event, next January in Washington, it is either going to be Barack Obama or Mitt Romney standing on the stage taking the Oath of Office.

It will not be Gary Johnson and it will not be that clown Virgil Goode from the Constitution Party.

Here are your choices. It is either A or B. It is American versus Marxist. It is Romney versus Obama. It is that simple.

If you decide Romney is not pure enough for you and you decide you want to vote for the candidate who believes the most pressing problem facing this country is the legalization of drugs, then you are voting for Barack Obama.

If you choose to vote for the Libertarian candidate this year, you are voting for four more years of the Party of Treason in the White House.

If you doubt me on this and think your vote does not matter, I refer you to Florida in 2000. Ralph Nader pulled 97,000 votes in Florida. Most of those people would have undoubtedly preferred Al Gore to George W. Bush. Gore lost Florida by 537 votes.

Yesterday, Mitt Romney pulled a stunner. His selection of Paul Ryan was a complete surprise to me. Prior to yesterday I was almost certain that his choice would be Rob Portman. The others I feared were in the running were Tim Pawlenty or Chris Christie. Had Christie been the choice, it would have been as bad a pick for Romney as McCain’s first choice in 08 of Joe Lieberman.

Some people, mostly Libertarians have been assailing Ryan as not really a conservative. Ryan voted for TARP in 2008 and he voted for Bush’s Medicare expansion.

No politician is going to have a perfect record. The American Conservative Union scores Ryan with a 92% lifetime record. To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, if someone votes with me 92% of the time, I’m going to call him a 92% ally, not an 8% traitor.

Instead of tapping an establishment moderate, as most of us feared he would do, Romney made a surprisingly bold choice in Ryan. More importantly, he reached out to conservatives.

A few weeks ago, I said I would go into the voting booth on election day with a large and cold bottle of Pepto Bismol in one hand, a stomach distress bag in another and I would vote for Romney, praying I did not leave the rancid dregs of what was once my breakfast on the voting machine.

I lost count of the number of jury trials I did as a lawyer. In a jury trial, at the end, the jury is given instructions by the judge. There is one section of the jury instructions that I have always remembered. It said, “Do not hesitate to reexamine your own views and change your opinion if you believe it is not correct.”

That is sound advice.

I have reexamined my own views of this race and have changed my opinion because I believe my old opinion is no longer correct.

This is a battle for the soul and future of America. It is literally a battle between good and evil. It is a battle between those who revere America and the liberty and freedom it stands for and those who worship at the altar of socialism and the inevitable tyranny that follows with socialism.

I have been brutally critical of Mitt Romney over the last few months. I anticipate I will continue to be critical of him on certain issues. Mitt Romney is not the perfect candidate but we will never have the perfect candidate.

What we do have is a candidate who right now is our best hope for stopping the Obama, Pelosi, Reid axis of fiscal evil and helping to restore America.

I endorse Mitt Romney for President and Paul Ryan for Vice President. I encourage every Tea Party member and conservative to go out and support them, work for them and make sure that in January, we do to Barack Obama what he has done to so many other Americans.

We put him out of a job.

The Free Republic can be an inspirational focus for conservative views and values. It can also be a soapbox for nasty little people who claim some expertise, some insight that only they themselves have. Sola Veritas is one of those little people and makes things even worse by alternating between calling the rest of us “cowards” and running under Jim Robinson’s coattails. This kind of frenetic divisiveness is exactly what Team Obama wants from us and Sola Veritas is doing his best to give us four more years of leftist/homo/antiAmerican insanity. Sola Veritas is an embarrassment but I am sure we’ll hear more from him. We’re the only audience he’s got.

“Not one American voter was forced by the “establishment” or anyone else to vote for Mitt Romney in the primaries.”

I beg to differ. The Republican primaries were rife with Romney’s political manipulation. You may find that acceptable, but I certainly don’t.

Well, then how did the "establishment" fail to force me to vote for Mitt Romney on Super Tuesday? I just waltzed right into my local precinct and voted for Newt Gingrich. Somehow the all-powerful GOP cabal failed to thwart me!

In retrospect - and given the field that actually chose to run - I now believe it's a good thing that Mitt Romney won the nomination. Obama's slime machine would have already destroyed Newt Gingrich or Herman Cain by now. What confounds the Dems now is that Romney is so squeaky clean. And the GOP ticket will feature two turnaround specialists when that's exactly what is needed. Once again, it appears that Providence foresaw what I did not...

Most people who would vote for a third party this time out should have their sanity questioned.

Fine enjoy helping Zero win again.

You “purer-than-thou” absolutists are gonna be the death of the United States of America as we know it.

This has been a de facto two-party nation since its founding.

Ever wonder why?

[Obama] “is attacking the constitution must be countered by constitutional methods of redress. Congress needs to act...don’t let them get away with NOT acting..”

I agree, but with Dirty Harry Reid controlling the Senate and Obama ruling by extra-constitutional fiat [amnesty for young illegals, INS not deporting illegals and AG Holder keeping us from voter ID], I am not sure the constitution gives us redress, other than getting out Obama by electing Romney. The House is in GOP hands but can’t act without the Senate on its side, plus Boehner is too soft to push the House to act. We need to elect more GOP senators and house members who are real conservatives.

It starts at the local level as politics is all local. Here in Wisconsin we elected Gov. Walker, a real conservative, and defended him through a nasty recall effort. He is in for sure now. I was active in the anti recall, went to Tea Party rallies and often email my House [Sensenbrenner]and Senate [Ron Johnson]persons. I give to my county and state GOP. I don’t give to the RNC as it is too soft on liberalism. If we don’t get our Obama and capture the Senate, I wonder if constitutional efforts will work. I am careful on how I express opinions anywhere as the government is making a lot of lists of who and what it considers threats. Just being a middle aged, white Christian seems to be enough for the left to call you a bad guy [despite always paying taxes, raising honest kids and being a model citizen].

Speaking of paranoid delusions and obsessiveness, what is this thing about imagining there are any Obama supporters on FR.

There are none ~ but there are certainly plenty of leftleaning/anti Conservative Mittbots around.

Well at least you checked out my posting history and confirmed I'm not a Romney supporter, however you confirmed a great deal about yourself. Thank you for proving my point about you.

Look, i not only checked out your posting history, i reviewed and read in detail every post you made for the last 9 months ~ and you and i agreed on 99.9999% of the threads, even to the point of having to remind Yehuda that WE are all on the same side ~ it's only recently you seem to have gone over to the Dark Side.

The Convention hasn't even happened and here we are with you laying to with the big gun that I'm crazy ~ let me tell you, someone who agrees with me that much is just as crazy Fur Shur.

Now, about the thread that got deleted ~ you do know that the route to the trial is progressing along the lines I initially suggested. The guy's lawyers examined the situation from every direction, and the only way to go is to plead self-defense.

Going back further, because I recall you getting involved in it, I and a lawyer were the ONLY Freepers who agreed that the USSC would toss out a lot of stuff concerning the Jefferson case and the Justice Department would end up having to build a case the normal way WITHOUT the stuff they took from his office ~ including the money from the freezer compartment.

Do you know what the pressure is like when you know you are right and literally everybody else is wrong (but one other guy)?

I think that just a sample of the way i stick to truth, right and the American way that gives me the C.O. Jones force field to withstand the garbage tossed at me on a daily basis by the Mittbots and those they've already crushed under their dainty demi-pointe shoes.

It ain't over 'til it's over, and Romney started this one.
