Paul Ryan may be good; Marco Rubio would have been better.
It's almost too easy to say that Mitt Romney's choice of a running mate is like the bland leading the bland. But there is truth to it. At a time when Romney needed fire, he chose rain. He appointed his accountant.
Rubio, the passionate and articulate senator from Florida, whose ancestral roots are in Cuba, would have brought fire to the Romney campaign -- along with the state of Florida, and vast appeal to the growing Latin American community in the country.
Ryan perhaps helps Romney win Wisconsin, and because of his budget expertise ensures that the campaign against Barack Obama will be about the economy and how to fix it. But the campaign was already about that, and Romney was the businessman who was going to fix it.
Ryan may help Romney crunch the numbers but presidential campaigns, particularly this one, are more than intellectual arguments about crunching numbers. They are passionate, visionary and emotional efforts by candidates to rally the country behind them.
In choosing Ryan as his running mate, Mitt Romney

Obviously, this guy has been watching the LSM coverage and not the raw feeds. I have never seen Romney so fired up! And about the right things!
I wish I could get paid to just write whatever on a daily basis.
The writer NAILED IT .... Myth Romney is a complete FOOL ... like Hilter commanding the German Wehrmact on the Russian front ....
Rubio would have made for an interesting civil war within the republican party and I doubt it would have turned out well for either of them.
Of course, the Dirty Little Secret is that No One of any real national political caliber wants to be Myth’s VP selection ... just as I predicted in May 2012 ...
It is best to keep one’s mouth shut and allow others to think you have nothing to say, than to open it and prove them correct. LOL

The Ryan pick rankles the Obama more than any other pick would have - takes the Obama off "message" (not that he has one unless you count class warfare and hate speech) - I want facts, detail and numbers people fixing the ruined economy - plus, Ryan is a tea party conservative and win or lose, will be in the cat bird seat in 16, 20, 24.
Can't wait to see that quote sailing through Cyberspace directly attributed to FreeRepublic.com.
Ya'll need to get over it...and get on with gettin' OBozo run out of the White House.
Sure, had Romney picked Rubio this BS article would have been titled Romney Panders to Hispanics.
It’s time we call these Obama plants for the weeds they are.
Ryan has repeatedly taken the Affirmative Action Messiah to the woodshed only to see these little yappers try to hide it.
Agreed
No kidding...
Ryan has already humiliated Obama to his face on Health Care and the budget and has more than handled himself when going up against the MSM. Obama has been a petulant little bitch in other situations Ryan was present at. Its because Ryan has a handle on what he talks about and Obama really has no idea.
A little bit of effort would give the author plenty of you tube clips of Ryan slicing up MSM talking heads and plenty of others of him making a fool out of DWS during televised interviews.
Instead he goes with the lazy he must a boring accountant because he knows numbers BS.
These people and apparently others like Patton have no idea what kind of hurt is coming for Obama in this race.
“NUTS”!!!!!!
Exactly right. Romney needed to please the Conservative base more than anything else, and Rubio wouldn’t accomplish that. Also, Romney probably knows he isn’t in trouble in Florida, and picking a Cuban doesn’t win Mexican votes, so Rubio really doesn’t bring much to the table besides a pretty face.
Took the words right off my keyboard. Romney could have selected G** Himself as a running mate and the press would find a way to try and make it look like a foolish move. And Sen. Rubio, whom I happen to be very impressed with, would bring his own set of problems. One, we need every Senate seat we can win and keep. Two, there are questions about his views on Border / Culture / Amnesty. Three, the "pander bear" image it would create and the fact that he would draw Hispanic voters to probably the same weak extent that Gov. Palin's candidacy managed with women. Four is eligibility and that would defuse Obama's daddy, step-daddy, passport, SS card, etc. issue.
If Rep. Ryan has any real, as opposed to desperately contrived by the media and their DNC controllers, flaws I am not yet aware of what they are.

Yeah, because there aren’t already thousands and thousands of anti-Romney quotes to be found on FR. Isn’t the Romney Truth File still pinned to the top of the Forum page?
Yeh, amnesty lovin and not quite eligible. Rubio would have been a peachy pick.
