Call me a wishful-thinker but I believe that Romney is completely without principles. Which is a bad thing but not as bad a thing as having liberal principles.

I believe that all his “liberal principles” in the past were just so much political calculation... the political calculation of an extremely ambitious man.

As are his current “conservative principles”. The difference is, Romney is smart enough to know that the best way to latch on to the power of the growing conservative movement is to make his new “conservative principles” indistinguishable from real conservative principles.

I know, I know, there is no substitute for the real.

But let me ask this: Aren’t there examples in history of an ambitious man taking on a cause out of sheer expediency and then actually moving that cause forward a great deal?

Could be.

I think Mormon is a strange religion, BUT every Mormon I’ve known personally is a fine upstanding citizen.

Just like every Muslim I’ve known personally is insular and suspicious.

Interesting post, I’ve been thinking along these lines.

An undeniable fact it is.
