White House says Obama will stick with Biden as running mate By Amie Parnes - 08/16/12 12:35 PM ET

President Obama has no intention of getting rid of Vice President Biden as his running mate, the White House said Thursday.

Republicans are being “ridiculous” and are trying to “distract attention” with their focus on Vice President Biden and his controversial comments earlier this week, White House press secretary Jay Carney said.

“They know that what they're saying about this is ridiculous," Carney said at a briefing with reporters, adding that it's an “obvious” attempt to take attention away from policy issues.

Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign lashed out at Biden and President Obama this week after the vice president in an address in Virginia said the Republican’s approach to the financial industry would “put y’all back in chains.” Biden made the remarks in front of a racially mixed audience.

Obama’s campaign has repeatedly said Biden was simply talking about financial regulation.

“The vice president was talking about Wall Street reform,” Carney said Thursday. “The vice president's intention was clear.”

Asked if Obama regrets the choice of words Biden used, Carney, who served as communications director to Biden before taking the podium job, called it “trivial,” and said “nobody took it as a reference to anything” except those who are trying to "make something out of nothing.”

Carney said it was an attempt to distract from the message because “the other side is losing these policy debates pretty overwhelmingly.”

The White House spokesman said Obama “absolutely understands and knows what the vice president was talking about.”

Asked if Obama was frustrated by the distraction over the last few days, Carney replied, “Not that I saw.”

Obama met this morning with Biden and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) earlier this week said Obama would be better off replacing Biden with Clinton as his running mate. McCain said he did not expect that to happen, however. He said he thought Clinton hoped to run for president in 2016.

Asked about McCain's remarks Wednesday, Carney said: "One place I would not go for advice on presidential running mates is John McCain."

Sooo....what was the three-way mob meet about today?

If it was to get Hillary on the ticket he would have only met with her and Joe knowing that her answer would be "yes" and for the three of them to then get their stories lined up.

Something smells like pirate poop pate'.

This reminds me of an NFL owner who says “I have immense confidence in Coach So-and-So” days before he fires the coach.

Yep. I think it also increases the possibility that Slow Joe meets with an unfortunate accident, mysterious heart attack (which can be blamed on the stress of this last week, thereby implicating Republicans), or simply resigns to "spend more time with the family." In either of those scenarios, Zero gets to wipe his hands of responsibility.

Biden will come down with some illness in the next few weeks that will force him to step down.

Sometimes a ‘d’ can be sustituted for an ‘s’(they’re very close on the keyboard) especially if one is trolling for spelling nerds.

“In my former hi tech ex-company the CEO and the VPs would announce that “employees are our most important asset” just before AND after a layoff.”

Everybody does that. That’s to ensure that no one tries anything stupid like say, steal company secrets or use the department fax machine to fax resumes etc. When I was a cubicle creep, I was fired on times that I never knew was coming. So eventually, we started our own company..

Based on his handling of the Jeremiah Wright situation, we can expect Barack Hussein Obama to throw Joe Biden under the bus before election day.

If a Republican made the same statement, it would be front page news for two weeks and the GOP would disown the candidate. The white Dems think that they’re reaching out to black voters by talking “jive”, which if I was black would be more offensive than the chains reference. Biden did everything but refer to blacks as “you people” and he still gets a free pass from the media.
