White House says Obama will stick with Biden as running mate By Amie Parnes - 08/16/12 12:35 PM ET
President Obama has no intention of getting rid of Vice President Biden as his running mate, the White House said Thursday.
Republicans are being ridiculous and are trying to distract attention with their focus on Vice President Biden and his controversial comments earlier this week, White House press secretary Jay Carney said.
They know that what they're saying about this is ridiculous," Carney said at a briefing with reporters, adding that it's an obvious attempt to take attention away from policy issues.
Mitt Romneys presidential campaign lashed out at Biden and President Obama this week after the vice president in an address in Virginia said the Republicans approach to the financial industry would put yall back in chains. Biden made the remarks in front of a racially mixed audience.
Obamas campaign has repeatedly said Biden was simply talking about financial regulation.
The vice president was talking about Wall Street reform, Carney said Thursday. The vice president's intention was clear.
Asked if Obama regrets the choice of words Biden used, Carney, who served as communications director to Biden before taking the podium job, called it trivial, and said nobody took it as a reference to anything except those who are trying to "make something out of nothing.
Carney said it was an attempt to distract from the message because the other side is losing these policy debates pretty overwhelmingly.
The White House spokesman said Obama absolutely understands and knows what the vice president was talking about.
Asked if Obama was frustrated by the distraction over the last few days, Carney replied, Not that I saw.
Obama met this morning with Biden and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) earlier this week said Obama would be better off replacing Biden with Clinton as his running mate. McCain said he did not expect that to happen, however. He said he thought Clinton hoped to run for president in 2016.
Asked about McCain's remarks Wednesday, Carney said: "One place I would not go for advice on presidential running mates is John McCain."
Snort, snort, snicker, snicker, hehehehehehehehe.
Maybe he is trying to look good by comparison to his running mate.
Biden is Obama’s Health Insurance Policy
It took all these years for the Dems to break the Dan Quaile meme (unfounded) as the st00pidist guy in the White House. Thank you Joe. Stand up and pull the chain, bro.
Thank you, Sarah!
So they admit the comments are “controversial”!! LOL
Makes sense - Hillary is doing much more damage to American Interests in her role as SecState than she could ever do as VP...
Sarah Palin has eaten Obama’s lunch. And.....Paul Ryan will be devastate that buffoon, Joe Biden come VP debate time!!!
...Republicans are being ridiculous and are trying to distract attention with their focus on Vice President Biden and his controversial comments earlier this week, White House press secretary Jay Carney said.
My, my, facts are such pesky things...
I didn’t know that Biden is ineffable to the World today...
Maybe he is trying to look good by comparison to his running mate.
That’s why he picked “Slow Joe” Biden for 08’!
It was a highly secretive luncheon affair.
Biden ate some crow. Barry most likely had some junk food smuggled into the White House unbeknownced to the Fuhrer of the food police, his lovely wife Michelle and followed it up by puffing on an after luncheon fag which is another of his verboten pleasures.
If I were Biden, I would be worried. I might find myself up against “Chicago values” a/k/a mafioso values.
Whew! That’s a relief. I was worried this morning.
"the first African-American who is bright, articulate, clean and a nice looking guy"
"you cant go into a 7-11 or Dunkin Donuts unless you have an Indian accent"
or one who speaks to an audience in an exagerrated African American accent saying:
"They gonna put you all in chains"
I think what has Obama worried is that if he taked Hillary as VP the likelyhood of his Arkancide goes way up.
Best result possible. He keeps Biden on the ticket and we get to keep benefiting from Biden’s inevitable cluelessness.
At some point, even the average voter is going to start wondering whether Biden should be just a heartbeat from the Presidency. Then it’s only a short step to wondering about the management skills of the person who put him there.
I don’t know. This reminds me of an NFL owner who says “I have immense confidence in Coach So-and-So” days before he fires the coach.
