U.S. Rep. Todd Akin apologized on Mike Huckabee's radio show today for comments he made about rape, and said he will remain in Missouri's U.S. Senate race.

"I'm not a quitter," Akin said.

"We all make mistakes," Akin said, disowning his previous comments. "The many people who supported me know that when you make a mistake what you need to do is say you're sorry."

Akin said no party leaders have called him and asked for him to drop out.

"This was a very very serious error," Akin said.

And .. does ANYONE really think this is the only stupid thing he will say between now and Nov? And does ANYONE really think that he isn’t going to be tied to EVERY single GOP Candidate out there?

The votes this idiot single-handedly will cost the GOP in Nov is mind-boggling. He has to withdraw by 5p tomorrow it seems if he is to be replaced.

And what effect did O’Donnell have on other races? None.”

O’Donnell was painted as a local loon by the Dems who could not realistically nationalize that a Republicans think they are witches narrative.O’Donnell did not feed into the national War on Women by Republicans meme that the DNC has floated. This guy does.As such, he is poison nationally whereas O’Donnell was not.He needs to go.

You are absolutely correct. And the answer to your question is ... MANY.

Any gaffe made by Hussein or Dimwit Biden between now and Nov is irrelevant because of this.

This “storm” can’t be weathered. Press won’t allow it. He needs to drop out now!! Akin is an a-hole!

No, the press are the A-holes. They need to drop off the face of the universe!
until, and unless, we can somehow out press them ..we will always be their hampsters caught in this never ending hampster wheel with no hope of escape.

EXACTLY. We pro-lifers are now all going to be painted with this weirdo’s brush, not just now, but for years to come. I don’t think many yet realize the damage done here. It is immense.

Just listened to the Huckabee interview...it kinda reminded me of the Trent Lott “some of my best friends are blacks” BET grovel tour.

Huckabee did a much better job articulating an “every life is precious” pro-life stance by using Pastor James Robinson as an example.

Forcible rape & statutory rape are two different charges.

Indeed...but did he discuss statutory rape? Was that any part of his remarks?

He was talking about RAPE- the kind most of think of when we hear a woman has been raped- by FORCE- against her will.

The National War on Women memo has been a complete fail so far for the Dems. Nobody is buying their garbage. Nobody in Wisconsin or Ohio is going to care what some random yahoo they never heard of said in Missouri.

Let them make hay out of it. It’s a non-issue with the economy, medicare, nuclear war on the table.

And NO GOP candidate is going to say they agree with Akin.

<><><><><

There is no sentient being on any planet in any universe that would agree with Akin when it comes to the ability of the female body to terminate a pregnancy with some heretofore unkonwn process, but only in the case of legitimate rape.

Look. I have made it clear my loathing for Romney, but let us remember . . . we are NOT Rats. This is NOT just about “winning”. This comment was so hideous, so heinous, so terrible that if we lose this seat, so be it. I would vote for McCaskill just to keep him out of the Senate and I have been voting since Goldwater and NEVER EVER voted Dem.

Let us not lose site of our principles and values like the other side has done. Akin is not morally qualified to hold public office. Toss “he’s an idiot” on that and, well, you get my drift.

"Force Akin out and you split the part at a time where it needs to be unified. For better or worse, Akin is the nominee. All we can hope is that he weathers this one and does not make too many more similar mistakes going forward. A lot to hope for, I know, but it is what it is."

The split is already there. Just look at the FR threats on Akin. If he doesn't withdraw, he will become a cudgel against the GOP, not only in Missouri, but nationally. The topic has already made its way into the WH press briefing today. It will be kept alive and used to pound leading Republicans.

Agreed.

He has screwed us out of a seat we should have easily won.

He is not going to win this. Period.

Political campaigns are as much about emotional sound bites as they are about important issues. The words “legitimate rape” will reverberate with the help of the media and the DNC national advertising campaign thru Ohio, Wisconsin and with independent women voters for weeks to come. And no amount of “splainin” after the fact by this “random yahoo” is going to overcome his tarring Republican candidates nationally who will have to spend much time in disassociating from his remarks rather than talking about the economy. This distraction needs to go.

Disagree completely. I don’t see anyone outside of Missouri giving a damn about this guy.

At this point, the seat is hers to lose again and I wouldn’t be all too shocked if this isn’t the last gaffe from Mr Akins that draws national attention.

Yep... she'll win this one going away.
