Rep. Todd Akin, the embattled Senate candidate who used the phrase “legitimate rape” in talking about abortion and pregnancy, said Tuesday afternoon that he would stick to his decision to remain in the race.

That’s a good point and I agree with you. Since he’s decided to stay in they better go all out to get him elected.
Besides the obvious ramifications for regaining the Senate, repealing Obamacare, etc, social conservatives should be asking themselves if this half-wit is who they want as the face of their movement. He epitomizes every caricature and stereotype the left has used to discredit evangelical Christians. Look for his candidacy, and what is sure to be a steady supply of gaffes and malapropisms, to feed that meme.
Kamikaze Akin's suicidal urge to stay in this race with no financial or institutional support just reinforces the image of fanaticism that the left pins on pro-lifers.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my life, it is that education and actual intelligence are not co-dependent on each other. I’ve met some absolutely brilliant people who had no more than a high-school diploma. On the other hand some of the biggest, most helpless fools I’ve known were extremely well educated. As a point of reference, go visit any college campus today and you’ll find multiple tenured professor’s that thrive in their shielded environments but would flail about helplessly in the real world.
And that would probably not be granted. Missouri election law is pretty clear: "Whenever a candidate for nomination or election to an office is disqualified after 5:00 p.m. on the sixth Tuesday prior to a primary election, general election or special election to fill a vacancy, his name shall be printed on the primary, general or special election ballot, as the case may be. The election and canvass shall proceed, and, if a sufficient number of votes are cast for the disqualified candidate to entitle him to nomination or election had the candidate not become disqualified, a vacancy shall exist on the general election ballot or in the office to be filled in the manner provided by law."
September 25th is the 6th Tuesday before election day. If a candidate withdraws from the race it's handled the same as if he was found to be unqualified to hold the office. By law if Akin doesn't leave before 5 PM on the 25th then his name remains on the ballot. And if he gets the majority of the votes then the seat is vacant and our Democratic governor will appoint a replacement.
Howard Dean, that is an excellent example of a guy who made one false move and got ruined by it.
I heard a reporter who was there say that in person it was really nothing. It wasn’t even a mistake, or a bad remark, or anything. He just got a little over-enthusiastic.
Yeah, we all think the media is against our side, but the fact is the media are a bunch of hyenas that will destroy anyone on a whim.
Of course I did not support the big leftie Howard Dean, but that mockery of him WAS unfair.

I find it hard to believe that there are not provisions within the state party to allow for the forcible replacement of candidates, regardless of whether they won a primary.

If we have a good election nationally and Barry is sent packing, I am not so gloomy, with or without Akin remaining in the race. Every single election there are one or more Republican candidates whose candidacies go horribly awry. It does not have to upset the whole applecart unless everyone on our side goes all wobbly. Also, there are more Senate seats where, in a bad year for Democrats, the Republican candidates can do better than currently expected (Mass., Maine, Conn.....). The other point is that although controlling the Senate is great, we never had any chance of having 60 Republicans, let alone 60 conservatives. So the whole notion of a conservative Senate juggernaut was a bit of fantasy. This Akin (who outside of Mo. had even heard of this guy a few days ago?) does not have to become the focus nationally unless we collectively roll over and allow the MSM to dictate the terms of battle. I think we need to toughen up!

If you could do that, what would be the point of a primary election in the first place? If you could do that, there would be no Cruz about to be the senator from Texas, the Tx GOPe would have kicked him out.

This was a golden opportunity to knock off a very weak candidate that has been totally screwed up.

And Charlie Cook just changed his rating on the MO Senate race from "Tossup" to "Likely Democratic" as long as Akin stays in.
His willingness to toss away the MO Senate race and, potentially, GOP control of the Senate, with all of its implications for repeal of Obamacare and future Supreme Court picks, reveals a narcissism worthy of Obama himself.
Yes, we don't seem to want to change the double standard. the Dems can say anything stupid repeatedly and they seem to think that nothing sticks to them because of their big media lame stream mouthpieces. The Rs spinelessly acquiesce.
