The United States Postal Service is apologizing to the residents of a Jersey City apartment building after a city post office didnt deliver mail to them for an entire week. The Vroom Street apartment building, home to about 60 units, went for the week without mail because its regular letter carrier was on vacation and the Bergen Avenue post office couldnt find its key to get into the building. A 36-year-old resident, who asked not to be named, said one of his paychecks was supposed to be delivered to him last week, but it sat instead inside the Bergen Avenue post office, along with all his neighbors mail, because of the missing key.

I work in Jersey City and we were once told the reason our business mail was all screwed up was because a certain postal worker had gone on Maternity leave.
This story does not surprise me at all.
Why didn’t any of the residents just go down to the post office and get their mail?
what, four posts and no picture of Newman yet?
That was the first question to pop into my head.
Maybe it’s because they’re too embarrassed to say they live on “Vroom Street?” Or “Van Raypen Arms?” (name of the establishment FTA) How would that sound? “I be livin’ down on Vroom Street, Van Raypen Arms. But don’t worry, I heard you can’t get pregnant that way.”
Many people do not opt for direct deposit because of various levies on the bank account.
I wouldn't. "Vroom" means "devout" or "religious" in Dutch.
Imagine Newman and Cliff Clavin working out of the same post office.
One of the ‘good’ Newman episodes is when Jerry took over the route so Newman could get transferred to Hawaii.
Newman started saying Jerry wasn’t qualified etc and eventually said “I guess it is just walking etc”
Jerry delivered on Sun with a ‘smile’ and Newman almost got fired cause the mean average was 30% deliveries and Jerry did a 98 or so, so the officials knew it wasn’t a PO employee doing the route.
The clods running the Postal Service seem to have no clue as to WHY America spent years laughing at Cliff Claven and Newman.
Learnt somethin’ today. Thanks! I thought it was just an engine noise. I still wonder about the Van Rapin’ Arms name....
For several years we had a good mail carrier. He knew I didn’t receive any of the newsprint garbage like Advo or Red Plum and I even went out of my way to remove myself from those mailings. He retired and we got this black woman. IMHO, she was pretty worthless. I called I the PO to complain about the newspaper trash and the next day she mentioned that she didn’t like my calling to complain. When she did the route, I missed some important mail due to her incompetence and many times, the mail wasn’t delivered until like 8pm at night. One piece of mail I missed was a bill and it cost me like $60 in late fees and charges. She then went on medical leave. She didn’t come back which suited me fine. Since then, the carriers have been better.
We have those locked mailboxes and there is a card that has name and address and I put a note for no Advo or Red Plum. Most people get Red Plum on Thursday and Advo on Tuesday.
On July 31, tens of thousands of the Post Office's most experienced employees took an early retirement package in an attempt to reduce labor costs. The result is tens of thousands of new part-time replacements who will, indeed, reduce labor costs but also don't know a lot about getting the mail through.
Given the drastic decline in mail volume, delivery should be 3 days a week. MWF.
If one of those is a holiday, Sat should be substituted.
I go to my mailbox only once a week just to empty it out for the postman and then throw it all away.
I receive nothing in the mail I need. Everything I do is online including getting and paying bills.
“Rapen” in Dutch means to collect or pick up, but “Van Rapen” is probably from a personal name.
I just figured it was some guy’s name.
You’d be surprised how many companies still don’t do direct deposit.
