Just on your first item ~ that Senators are supposed to be smart ~ NO THEY ARE NOT.

They are supposed to be ELECTED but beyond that they put their pants on one leg/leghole at a time just like everybody else.

Although I certainly don't encourage RNC involvement in primaries beyond making sure that they adhere to some rules of uniformity and system integrity, I do think that the second a primary is decided and certified, the brand spanking new candidates should be immediately run through a brief TRAINING PROGRAM that teaches them how to evade the MSM and the sort of language that will get them in trouble even with us.

What seems to have happened here is the RNC, which is totally driven by the needs of the RNC Chairman's friend (and we know who he is), simply ignored the Missouri primary (among others) and left poor Akin to get set up with an interview with a reporter who is particularly motivated to suck Republican candidates in and spit them out like so much garbage.

Akin had no business getting interviewed by that guy, and he had no business doing extemporaneous expansion of his positions BEYOND anything he'd put out in a scripted speech that'd been reviewed by OTHERS who did not share his key interests (but wanted him elected anyway).

His several terms in the House of Representatives simply did not prepare him for a Senate campaign ~ nor does it most Senate candidates.

The RNC Chairman and his lackeys get the blame for this one ~ Akin could have been stopped earlier with just a little bit of work on their part.

The East Coast Republican establishment is pro abortion. Romney used to be pro choice until political expediency caused his to change his position. On the other hand, Todd Akin is a good God fearing man whose heart is in the right place and who has alwasy been pro life. He has never flip flopped on this issue. His comments for which he has apologized were taken out of context.

Akin talked about “legitimate rape.” What’s wrong with saying that? We all know that not all rape accusations are legitimate. Remember when the Duke lacrosse team was falsely accused of rape? False accusations like that happen all the time. When rape is legitimate is is wrong and needs to be prosecuted, but please don’t overreact to Akin’s comments because he meant well.

the msm is not pushing you out...

even the gop-e is not pushing you out...

you pushed yourself out by engaging your mouth before putting your brain into gear...

in other words, your own stupidity is what is pushing you out...

if you want to stay in, then you must convince the constituents in your district that you are not a stupid buffoon...

quit being a “finger pointer” and man up...

That idiot Huck strikes again to destroy the GOP chances to stop the evil

The evangelical, single issue voter wing of the party really needs to find some better people to take their cues from. Guys like Huckabee and Pat Robertson may be decent people, but their advice is often political poison.

Why isn’t our side going after the BIG news like oh say, How Janet Napolitano is being sued from within her dept of Homeland Security for sexual abuse and discrimination against the men? HELLO - my take is OK Akin is still in the race, so move on already...This is ANOTHER attempt by the left to move the discourse away from what REALLY MATTERS - JOBS, ECONOMY and a PRESIDENT who has LET AMERICA DOWN!

Bingo. HOWEVER, do you know why we aren't talking about the things (good list above) that really matter?

Because CLOD AKIN IS STILL IN THE RACE which allows the DNC/Media complex to use this distraction nationally!!!!!

Just a thought....can Akin show the contrast between BJ Clinton and himself????
Should Akin throw out all the statements by the supporters of BJ Clinton, and reinforce how Bill was excused for real rape, versus the attacks against a response to a hypothetical???

Todd Akin is that you? Is he a relative? Do you work on his staff? Or are you just a blinkered zealot like he is? That's the only support Akin has left."Taken out of context"? If "legitimate rape" was the only thing he said that would be bad enough, but he made it sound like pregancy could help you determine the truth of a rape claim while simultaneously parroting quack science. Sure Mark Levin, Rush, Hannity, the entire conservative blogosphere and every Republican who has spoken out on this so far are the "liberal media elite" and the "East Coast Republican Establishment." Conservatives are not attacking this guy because he is firmly pro-life. God bless anybody who wants to make that case effectively. They are attacking him because he is both politically inept and objectively stupid. He gravely reduced our chances of winning the Senate and repealing ObamaCare, not to mention the pro-life cause and the general reputation of Evangelicals by playing directly to the stereotype of an ignorant, sexist, scientifically illiterate fundamentalist dummy who hasn't thought through his own beliefs--right when we were finally building momentum. What's his next destructive gaffe going to be?

OK, here are our choices:

1) Republicans pull all funding and support from Akin - McCaskill wins.
2) Run and support an independant candidate, split the vote - McCaskill wins.
3) Get behind Akin with everything you got (he may be a dummy but he is your dummy) - Maybe McCaskill wins.

If Todd Akin were to drop off a ledge, and into a pool of sharks (with frickin lazers), I wouldn’t lift a finger to help him.

You know better ~ if Chucky Schumer could get elected to the Senate, any idiot can.

His top staff guy when he was in the House and the Senate was Tony Wiener!

Clarification:

2) Run and support an independant write-in candidate, split the vote - McCaskill wins.

We are past the filing deadline for Missouri to be on the ballot.

To all of you who are willing to forget that the goal is a conservative (Republican?) Senate:

Akin Mis-spoke. He has attempted to apologize but it falls on deaf ears and hard (troll-like) hearts. Remember Regan’s first law - Speak no evil of another Republican.

Of course there are many of you who ARE Obummer supporters and you have liberally salted this Blog, with the implied consent of the moderator, to be sure, with statements meant to suppress votes. You know that you can’t get me to vote bor the O, but you hope that the talk of “the better of two evils”, that I might not vote. There is NO ONE who comes withing light years of O’s evil design for this country. No matter how foolish, the least bit of conservative Blood in a person qualifies that person to be voted into office to TAKE THE SENATE AND THE PRESIDENCY.
Like it or not, Akin is the Republican candidate. If you fail to elect him to office it is YOUR failure. You will have helped to elect McCaskill, a reliable vote for all things OBAMA. This would be a gross failure for which you can offer NO defense. Hold your nose, send your money and support the Republican Candidate in MO.

Maybe Akin’s an idiot; never heard of him til this blew up. Was he drunk?

I don’t think he meant to imply rape could ever be ‘legitimate’; he grabbed the wrong word while trying to make a distinction between violent, forced rape by a stranger and things like “date rape.” I don’t think anyone could argue that the latter causes the same level of trauma caused in cases of the former.

Surprising how quickly the media jumped him; it seems they’d already set the type on the presses. I almost think they secretly hypnotized him or implanted some brain control device...
At any rate, by now he’s got a pretty fair idea of what it’s like to be raped.

Here’s what we’ve missed

If the Republicans and conservative groups back a third party candidate then it might help bring the state back into play for the Presidential race. Serve to immunize Republicans running nationally for Congress from being associated with him.

Here's what we've missed;

I haven't seen any commentary on 'bams'(from now on I'm using the plural possessive form because there are so many of him) remarks during his 'surprise' press meeting. He always says more than he says. At the presser he said:

"it shows that politicians, most of whom are men, have no business making decisions on behalf of women's health.." -- well, it went something like that, though perhaps not word-for-word.

We should be all over this:
"Mr President, weren't those politicians precisely the ones who passed your health-care bill?"
"Yo' bam! What the hell do you mean? Our government is based on politicians passing legislation; bad as it is, it's the best I've seen. You got something better?"
"Holy smoke! You seem to think you do! You're figuring on one of you Czars running the show! Isn't that right?
