CNN Camerawoman "Not Surprised" by Peanut-Throwing
The Maynard Institute ^ | Thursday, August 30, 2012 | Richard Prince

Patricia Carroll, the CNN camerawoman who was assaulted with peanuts and called an animal by two attendees at the Republican National Convention, told Journal-isms on Thursday that "I hate that it happened, but I'm not surprised at all."

Carroll, who agreed to be named for the first time, said she does not want her situation to be used for political advantage. "This situation could happen to me at the Democratic convention or standing on the street corner. Racism is a global issue," she said by telephone from Tampa.

Carroll said no one took the names of the attendees who threw peanuts at her Tuesday on the convention floor and told her, "This is what we feed animals." She alerted fellow camera operators, producers and CNN security. The head of the delegation — she was not certain of the state — told her the perpetrators must have been alternates, not delegates.

But Carroll, 34, said that as an Alabama native, she was not surprised. "This is Florida, and I'm from the Deep South," she said. "You come to places like this, you can count the black people on your hand. They see us doing things they don't think I should do."

Carroll noted of the Republican convention, "There are not that many black women there."

I didn’t think it was about race at all, but blacks see everything in terms of race. It was a comment on the press, and, as you say, the peanut gallery.

Granted, it was stupid and whoever did it had probably had too much to drink when they got out their bag of peanuts, but I don’t see why it was considered “racist.”

I was inclined to blame the peanut throwers because the cameraperson was just doing her job.

Now its obvious the cameraperson went into the convention with an attitude.

I could see them making a racial connection if watermelons were thrown at her, but peanuts???
Sounds like another journalist trying to make a story instead of reporting it.

Sounds bogus -- so stereotypical of how the Left would set it up -- so it could used to smear Republicans (reminiscent of Pelosi striding across Capital Hill with the big gavel after the passage of ObamaCare and the blacks in her group being called out -- but NO ONE saw it or recorded it).

“Patricia Carroll, the CNN camerawoman”

she's a camera woman but didn’t get any shots of this behavior?

ISN'T THAT WHAT SHE GET'S PAID FOR?

"There are not that many black women there."

As we all know, black men and black women vote along very strict racial lines when it comes to national politics. It's a choice they make due to their own racism or extreme bias. What would she expect to see?

The black folks who are in attendance are of the freedom-loving intelligent kind. Too bad for blacks that those folks seem to be in such short supply. Bigots and racists are easy to propagandize, so the status-quo is perpetuated.

Perhaps they mistook her for an elephant? I've never heard of black people being referred to as an elephant. If it was intended to play on racist stereotypes they might have thrown bananas, not peanuts.

I guess this will keep the already committed Democrats from voting for those elephant-hating GOP meanies.

I dunno, this stinks like another one of those phony liberal race hoaxes, is Sharpton standing in the wings?

Please help me get this straight. She is a CNN camera woman. I assume that she was in position behind her camera attempting to do her job. If so, then why didn’t she turn her camera on her attackers and record as much of the incident as she could? It was a planned incident and she wasn’t surprised because she knew that it was going to happen. Now that the liberals have played it for all it is worth, she wants to forget the whole matter. Further investigation will reveal the truth. The perpetrators were plants. Case closed.

Carroll said no one took the names of the attendees who threw peanuts at her

She was probably that kid in school who took names when the teacher left the room. This smells like a set up.

Yep, if this wasn’t a lefty setup it would be all over every MSM headline. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would be on their way to Tampa. We all know its true.

This could only have been done by the DNC. People just don’t do those things, especially in a crowd. I live in rural South Carolina and I can tell you that this is a phony incident. You just know that there was going to be one. That is all the DNC has going for it. The media has been trying to cook something up about racism for weeks. They have gone so far as to take a comment about Obuma playing so much golf and the commentator stated that they were trying to connect Obuma with Tiger Woods.

THIS IS A PHONY INCIDENT!!!!

Please don’t call her an animal. That only dehumanizes and feeds the bad perception created by whomever these miscreants were. I like to think they were infiltrators. Poeple shouldn’t act this way, and it shouldn’t matter what party one is. The delegation leader thinks they were alternates. So he must know who they were. I’m actually surprised how little coverage there has been of this. You’d think MSNBC, i.e., race card central, would be running with this. There must be more to the story. Very strange.

She attributing an awful lot to two folks and she didn't even get their names.

This sounds a bit like the 'racist' spitting incident on the Capitol steps...the one that never happened.

Also...if she is from Alabama, she certainly knows how 'racism' works there. There are proportionally more racist blacks there than racists whites. By far...

Consider the possibility that she was called an animal by a couple of drunk conventioners because of her employer, CNN, not because of her race. Obviously that doesn't excuse it and the correct response was to eject them.

But AFAIK some of the loudest cheering at the convention so far was for the Black speakers, none of whom had peanuts thrown at them.

Everyone involved confirms the incident. Curious there is no video or photos, though.

The "victim" is a camerawoman and there is no recording of the incident?

World's worst camerawoman!

She's as good at camera operating as Wolf Blitzer is on Jeopardy.

This is BS.

Her original story probably had the perps throwing cotton balls until she realized there weren't any cotton ball vendors at the convention.
