Rains wash away Mount Obama in Charlotte, N.C

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A torrential downpour that struck Charlotte Saturday afternoon damaged the Mount Rushmore-style sand sculpture bust of President Obama — an ominous beginning to what many fear is a plagued convention.

Workers were trying Saturday afternoon to reform the base of the sculpture, built from sand brought in from Myrtle Beach, S.C., pounding and smoothing out the sand that had washed off the facade.

He looks like he is on steroids. And what’s with the missing front teeth?

Obama should be glad that the storm damaged this “sculpture”. Makes him look like a happy drunk. (Then being married to the “First Yeti” would make anyone stay perpetually drunk). “HARCORD!”

I am absolutely shocked at the level of delusion and accompanying mental illness that would lead to a “statue” like this.

Well, you have a point; the first 8 lines are in sonnet form, tho’ the last six don’t fit that form. But it’s well done, anyway.

A “facade” for sure. The facade has nothing behind it, only a front or window dressing, something akin to an empty chair.

Who does this guy think he is.......Oh, never mind.

“....looks more like Bill Cosby”

I will admit I have not had my morning coffee, bigbob, but I see Trayvon in that sand sculpture. And yes all, they chose sand so the shovel ready job it entails keeps, at least, the artists busy and working for another week keeping it fresh.

Obama Biden Fresh?

Right!

That is weird looking. Firstly, it doesn’t even look like him, second - he looks like he’s wearing a guard in his mouth so he doesn’t grind his teeth. Either that or he’s going to play some hockey.

They should be embarrassed about this.

Was it the rains from Isaac really?

oh I hope so.... How appropriate if it was. Isaac (children of Israel)/Ismael (children of Allah)

A trough ahead of a front did pull moisture up to this area from the Gulf region unexpectedly early, so it’s accurate to say that it was remnants of Isaac. We’ll be experiencing it for the best part of the week, although an anticipated low forming off the Carolina coast has failed to materialize. We’d have gotten a good, lengthy soaking rain rather than unstable conditions of sun and cloud with occasional heavy downpours.

Mid-late August through early October can tend to get rains coming through like that. Peak hurricane season, and just generally rainier. My grandfather called it “the equinox,” farmers depend upon it after a hot, baking summer. It turns a tobacco crop around before harvest, which can occur right up to first frost. I’ve seen people out working at night pulling tobacco to get it in before a frost, even done it myself as a teen.

They can do one in black sand when they get to Hawaii in about five months.

It’s OK, the Army Corps of Engineers spent $60 million replacing the missing sand. They should send the bill to the DNC.
