Democrats released their approved platform last night, a curious Labor Day exercise considering the results. With unemployment the chief concern of voters in this election, how often does the word "unemployment" appear in the DNC document? BuzzFeed's Andrew Kaczynski counted, and found only three mentions abortion got four. What other terms outplay the biggest issue in this election? Andrew finds a few interesting comparisons in his pictorial:
Here are a couple that Andrew missed:
It seems that contraception is as important to this document as unemployment, abortion slightly more important, and redistribution three times more of an issue for Democrats as unemployment.
Speaking of abortions, John McCormack notes that Democrats have taken an extreme position on the issue by refusing to limit their support to the first trimester and to push for taxpayer subsidies for abortions:
The 2012 Democratic party will officially adopt an extreme position on the issue of abortion on Tuesday. According to a copy of the party platform, which was released online just before midnight on Monday, “The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a womans right to make decisions regarding her pregnancy, including a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay.”
That last part–”regardless of ability to pay”–is an endorsement of taxpayer-funded abortions, a policy that President Obama has personally endorsed. …
The 2012 Democratic party also endorses an unrestricted right to abortion-on-demand. According to the platform, on the issue of abortion “there is no place for politicians or government to get in the way.”
No place at all, huh? Remember when Bill Clinton pushed his party into supporting a policy to make abortion “safe, legal, and rare,” a position that appeared in their platform through 2004? Democrats don’t. There is no longer any such language in their platform, which should inform voters that Democrats not only don’t want to make abortion rare, they want taxpayers footing the bill for them.
BTTT!
You cannot get more extremist than that
You need to expand the limits of your imagination.
Ok, Ive tried to stay out of this argument. But even the people that hate abortions refuse to say that women kill their own kids. Isnt that what this is all about? Women killing their own kids?
I think that women killing their own kids should put up little stickers on their car window and be proud of it.
read some “ethicists” like Peter Singer to see where they want to go...
Planned Parenthood’s abortions include those that are ILLEGAL, UNSAFE, and FREQUENT/REPEAT CUSTOMER.
to bizarroland?
It is an easier sell to pity the woman and criticize the abortion industry. And I think the tack is necessary to get anything done.
I find the practice of a mother getting a late term abortion particularly repugnant, because no one knows more than she that this is a child--her belly's out to there, for crying out loud!
And some of this is purely sexist. We often infantilize the female, and treat her in an argument as if she's some helpless minor child herself and can't be held to account for moral corruption. Maybe it's all Sandra Fluck.
I see this when some politician gets caught being unfaithful with some attractive younger woman, like Mark Sanford of South Carolina. Everyone rushes to criticize him, sympathize with the wronged wife--but never a word spoken about the destructive and vicious whore in the triangle. Everyone is too busy leering at her and saying, "I'd hit it."

“to bizarroland?”
Tune in to the Dem convention. Or better, for sanity’s sake, don’t.
