GOP Has Rare Shot At Winning House Seat In Mass.
npr ^ | September 9, 2012

Posted on 09/09/2012 6:12:21 AM PDT by SMGFan

U.S. House candidate Richard Tisei is openly gay. He's also openly Republican.

"You know what, in Massachusetts, it's a lot easier to be gay than be a Republican," he says, "as far as trying to get elected to office."

But Tisei could make political history for the Massachusetts GOP. Not just because they could win their first U.S. House seat in 15 years, but also because Tisei would be the first openly gay Republican to be elected to a term in Congress.

Republicans are generally long shots to get elected in this solidly Democratic state. But Tisei's upset bid is getting a huge lift from a family scandal surrounding the incumbent Democrat, Rep. John Tierney.

Tierney's wife pled guilty to aiding and abetting an illegal gambling operation that her brothers were running. This summer, one of them was convicted of racketeering. Another is on the lam.

Voters like Bob Doucette don't want to give the 16-year congressman another two years in office.

"Totally ridiculous. If my wife had $7 million in a checking account, how intelligent can he be if he didn't know that? And he's partly running our country? No possible way," he says.

Both brothers-in-law say the congressman knew all along what they were doing. Tierney says they're just lashing out.

Please see my post. I understand that the poofs are content in losing their souls; let them.

However, if a fag provides another vote to keep Pelosi out of the Speaker’s chair, and make my life here on Earth less Hellish, I’ll take it.

Don’t like it, but a queer Republican is still better than any RAT.

if we need lefty gay marriage GOPers to keep Pelosi out ... forget it. it comes with a price ... gets influence on who the GOP leadership is, weakens opposition to repeal of DOMA, strengthens the argument for more pro-gay Republicans. SCREW THAT!!!

WHAT DID THE LIBERAL SCUM GOP DO FOR DOUG HOFFMAN IN NY-23? THEY SUPPORTED OWENS THE DEM. SCREW THEM. RE-ELECT TIERNEY.

Why can’t this go national the way the Republicans were held to account in ‘06 for Mark Foley’s alleged crimes.

There are no more Congressional pages and Tierney wasn't emailing any of them.

But Garry Studds -- a Massachusetts Congressman a generation back -- was sexually involved with male pages and it didn't hurt him at the polls, so maybe if Tierney were into that sort of thing it could actually help him with voters.

Tierney's scandal is typical money stuff, the sort of thing that never goes national, unless it involves somebody higher up than Tierney is. A story about a crooked wife and her crooked brothers doesn't usually travel very far.

Mark Foley's scandal took on significance because of the timing. Republicans were in real trouble that year and the Foley thing added fire to the flames because of the scandalous nature of the accusations, which came out close to the election.

"I cannot willfully support a party that passed the Defense of Marriage Act." -- Dan Fishman

Certainly not the alternative some people are looking for.

But I have to admit that "Fishman" would be a good name for a Congressman representing the Gorton's of Gloucester fisherman.

yep, Go Sean.

i would support jay Fleitman in the 2nd, but he decided not to run this year. Dumb decision the GOP made in ‘10, not to back him.

oh that’s right I forgot about him—I don’t know how many votes he’ll get but he’ll be taking anti-Tierney votes away from Tisei, perhaps enough to sway the election to Tierney.

It’s known as a straw. Ask “President Ross Perot” what happens when a third party (half decently strong) candidate runs. (or
as “Gov. Tim Cahill”—the candidate who helped Deval
win re-election)

it would be a good thing if the L takes votes from Tisei. It is better if Tierney wins.

Unless you are the kind of GOPer who like any R even the ones who are pro-gay-marriage.

Well keep in mind MA has Republicans, Democrats—and many unenrolleds. Some unenrolleds may be fiscal conservatives and social liberals/moderates—and Brown, Tisei, and Romney have some hope, but there are a lot of statist Dems out there too (esp. gov. workers and their relatives and friends.) Which is good for the Tierney Crime Family.

The GOP is always in the minority. RINOs like Brown and Romney are the best we can do (believe me). What else, start a third party? That’s a no-go either. (If you can run a true conservative in MA and have them win, more power to you, but remember this is Massachusetts.)

Sometimes there is someone interesting running but they run into problems. Look at Sean Bielat in the 4th, very promising for a GOP pick up—so who do the Dems run vs him?
JoeJoeJoe Kennedy. It’s tough.

One comment someone posted to an artidle on Tisei's facebook:

>> This is an excellent article that shows how Richard is fiscally smart, and independent minded on some social issues. To me, he is a solid bipartisan fiscal conservative. It's ok to have appropriate levels of social government programs, but not at the expense of gutting the private economy and/or trillion dollar deficits. I believe he represents the modern Massachusetts consensus. Get em Richard!

Tisei's page also shows him at an ALS fundraiser and he says members of his family have been personally affected by it.
Or we could get this wonderful couple back in for 2 more years. Conservatives For Tierney...

(of course some will be upset by the “bipartisan” part but will Tierney actually toss us a few bones, or go solidly
“...progressive...” in his votes?)

“The gay marriage GOPers in MASS can go pound sand. I think you’re on the wrong site supporting Gay radicalism dressed up with a GOP bow.”

I’m not supporting anything you schmuck. I was simply stating a fact. Rich Tisei is a piece of $hit, but he’s still better than John Tierney. If it means so much so you, move to Mass do you can vote for Tierney.

Richard Tisei promises gay newspaper he’ll push homosexual agenda on several fronts
http://www.massresistance.org/docs/govt10/election10/baker_tisei/tisei_promises_gay_agenda.html

Richard Tisei:
Gay activist. Recently “came out” as a homosexual. Proudly embraces the homosexual lifestyle and pushes its agenda in Legislature.

Gay marriage. Supports same-sex “marriage”. Voted NOT to let the people vote on Marriage Amendment.

Fifth columnist. Bragged in homosexual magazine that “The margin of victory was provided by Republicans” in effort to deny vote on Marriage Amendment. Actively working to move the Republican party leftward.

Gay propaganda. Appears in an aggressive pro-homosexual “marriage” propaganda video produced by the homosexual lobby. Includes a number of questionable (i.e., phony) statistics.

Transgender bill. Co-sponsor of radical Transgender Rights and Hate Crimes Bill (H1728).

Abortion. Strongly supports abortion. Rated 100% by NARAL and 100% by Planned Parenthood.

Buffer zone. Co-sponsored the expanded buffer zone bill around abortion clinics.

Hostile to religious faith. Co-sponsored the “emergency contraception bill” that was vetoed by Gov. Mitt Romney because it would force Catholic hospital workers to act against their faith.

High taxes. Voted against several bills to reduce taxes, earning him the wrath of Citizens for Limited Taxation. Tisei was the only Senate Republican who voted against the tax rollback in May 2000.

We need him in the caucus like we needed Mike Castle.

Mike Castle is a tea partier compared to Tisei.
