Romney Says He Likes Parts of 'Obamacare'
Austin Statesman ^ | 9/9/12 | AP

"Of course there are a number of things that I like in health care reform that I'm going to put in place," he said in an interview broadcast Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press." ''One is to make sure that those with pre-existing conditions can get coverage."

Romney also said he would allow young adults to keep their coverage under their parents' health-insurance.

Those provisions have been two of the more popular parts of Obama's Affordable Care Act.

"I say we're going to replace Obamacare. And I'm replacing it with my own plan," Romney said. "And even in Massachusetts when I was governor, our plan there deals with pre-existing conditions and with young people."

Cherry Picking for the bed wetters and Paulbots. It’s time we get past this and start working to make sure that not only does Romney get into the White House, but that we control both houses of Congress.
Anything less is not acceptable. Fight over the bones later.

This is why it’s important to replace Congress, so that Romney is controlled.

Romney’s judge appointments in MA were liberal, why would he be different as president.

> My point was less about Romney and more that life does not happen in 30 second soundbites and cherry-picked quotes which is ALL you get from today’s so-called media...and most of what you get is the author’s slant and rampant speculation without any objectivity whatsoever.

I am VERY familiar with Mr. Romney and have been following his career since Massachusetts. The only constant about him is that his flipfloppiness gives “Lurch” Kerry a run for his money. And not only is he light on specifics of what he would do as President, The only things he is specific about — like healthcare — only reinforce his history of flipflopping.

If he’s elected, get ready for Republicans to OWN Obamneycare, Amnesty, and more.

Count on it.

That may be your choice but others may not want to put themselves and their loved ones through the pain and suffering and end up with the same result. You are right it is a horrible choice.

Do you honestly think a Republican controlled congress will go against a Republican president.

It's just a textbook example of what's wrong with Republicans. They accept the premise of the Left's argument and then try to "conservatize" liberal policies.

Obamacare needs to be repealed in its entirety - if people need insurance to cover pre-existing conditions the market will always find a way.

I agree which is why I will be voting against Obummer and circling in Romney but will not be too excited if Romney wins.

> Do you honestly think a Republican controlled congress will go against a Republican president.

This is my biggest problem with a Romney presidency. If he does 80% of what Zer0 does, he will be the defacto leader of the GOP, and as such will not be appreciably fought by even a GOP congress.

Not a nickel will I spend on Romney’s campaign. It’s all going to tight Congressional races.

Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, also said he would offset his proposed tax cuts by closing loopholes for high income taxpayers. "We're not going to have high-income people pay less of the tax burden than they pay today. That's not what's going to happen

Simplifying the tax code by closing loopholes is a GOOD thing. This is what conservatives have been calling for for years.

Overall, Romney will likely neither raise nor lower rates on high-income people. But he will lower corporate taxes.

We MUST take the Senate out from under the control of mccain, graham, and mcconnell. I will fight tooth and nail to see this goal accomplished.

You raise a fair point, but I need to balance that with the damage Romney can do as leader of the GOP when he’s president, his Zer0-like policies sailing through Congress because the Republicans won’t fight the leader of the party and the Dims get the socialist laws they wanted all along.

The big business crowd that pumps money into our political campaigns wanted Obamacare as a vehicle to separate themselves from bearing the cost of healthcare for employees.

I’m all for helping business reduce its costs by lowering taxes and regulation, but not through a nationalized government takeover of healthcare.

Romney will modify Obamacare to make it more business friendly like making everyone pay money to the insurance companies so their balance sheets looks better.

That is why we need to fight for the likes of Allen West, Michelle Bachmann, Todd Akin, Ted Cruz and other TEA Party Patriots. We need a new speaker and whip. WE CAN DO THIS!

There are no free ponies.

Only fewer and more expensive ponies, courtesy of government meddling.

Romneycare was just another medical cost-shifting scheme that failed, while Obamacare is a cost-shifting scheme in combination with a calculated, deliberate hijacking of approximately 1/7 of the US economy by the White House marxist and his crew of central planners.

Our only hope is that Romney and co. have learned some salutary lessons from the Massachusetts mess. We know for sure that in a second Obama term, the economic hijacking will continue to advance at full throttle.

"Repeal and replace" is safer political rhetoric in a close election than threatening to "start over", since many voters favor certain aspects of Obamacare.

The unfortunate choice is between being semi-screwed and completely screwed.

The way to fix the Pre Existing issue is for a Defined Risk Pool being established, just as Drivers with terrible driving records can get Assigned Risk Liability Policies on their Vehicles. The Insurance Pool is outside the regular Car Insurance System and Rates are determined within that specific group. The problem that Liberals have is they want to change everything rather than focusing on the problem of a minority of participants.

Agree

I don’t disagree on getting Congress back...however we need to be realistic that Bush and then Obama have succeeded in making Congress for the most part irrelevant.

Additionally ask ANY tea party candidate that got into office, the establishment progressives have effectively neutered ALL of them.
