(Reuters) - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney criticized President Barack Obama's handling of foreign policy on Thursday after four Americans were killed in Libya, saying the United States seems at the mercy of world events.
Romney made a case for a stronger U.S. military at a campaign rally in northern Virginia, an area that could play a deciding role in who wins the November 6 presidential election.
But the former governor of Massachusetts stopped short of repeating charges that Obama is apologizing to America's enemies.
"As we watch the world today, sometimes it seems that we're at the mercy of events, instead of shaping events," he said in Fairfax, a suburb of Washington, D.C.
Romney has come under fire from Democrats, pundits and some Republicans for criticizing the Obama administration's initial response to demonstrators at U.S. diplomatic missions in Benghazi, Libya, and Cairo.

I’m thinking this entire fiasco is perpetrated by the Obama regime to keep the focus OFF of the economy in the upcoming debates. Romney and Ryan’s specialty is the economy so this steers the debate away from that.

We know 0bama’s good buddies Bernadette Dorn and Bill Ayres were instrumental in coordination with the “Arab Spring”. They have extensive contacts with the groups behind the “Arab Spring”.
One area 0bama is leading on in the polls is Foreign Policy
Is the current crises in the ME a Obama “Reichstag Fire” designed to distract attention from Obama disaster corrupt incompetence on the Economy on to an area his is wrongly assumed to be competent on?
Did the Obama team assume a crises in foreign policy would generate a “Rally to flag” effect and help 0 in the election?
I know, it sounds utterly insane but when you know the people around Obama, it is not so far fetched. These people really are as amoral and political corrupt as this.

Your theory is not beyond reason, although I believe this is an attempt to get the focus OFF OF THE ECONOMY in the upcoming debates. Notice how the media attacked Romney immediately following the attack in Libya. This is all scripted. America's enemies occupy our government.

It did work for Carter initially, what hurt Carter was how long the crises dragged out coupled with the disastrous state of the US Economy. Remember Carter lead all thur Sept and Oct 1980 in the polling
I know it sounds insane yet the history of the 20th Century is replete with examples where “progressives” have been willing to slaughter millions in the name of “progress”.
If it were intentional, he'd be prepared for these fairly predictable events. I mean, storming sanctuaries like churches and embassies is kind of what Moslems do, isn't it? Instead, Obummer's messaging is a complete, badly improvised mess, and he makes the country look helpless—which makes him look helpless. In a word, like a dork.
Are we suggesting that moving the focus of events off-shore represents a successful campaign move by Obama? To paraphrase that British general from our revolutionary war after a costly battle, Obama's reelection campaign cannot survive many more such successes.
Regardless, moving the conversation to foreign policy has given Romney the opportunity to shine by saying obvious truths forcefully—and most importantly, not being the dork in the White House, who is standing there holding the bag.

No matter what Obama does it won't make Americans forget about his cruddy economy. It's hard to erase four years of bad memories in just two months---especially when you don't have a job.
Democrats always have an automatic advantage when the major issues facing the country involve the economy. People believe the Democrats are more likely to protect them from financial problems, if only by sending them free checks in the mail.
Republicans always have an automatic advantage when the major issues facing the country involve military or foreign threats. People believe the Republicans are more likely to protect them from foreign threats.
Ergo this crisis helps Romney. Expect a poll bump.
