I read this article and then immediately find this one. Apparently the Chinese are taking advantage of our distractions in the Middle East to try and strong-arm Japan and seize control of the Senkaku Islands.

Am I reading too much into this?

No. If the US falls, EVERYONE will take advantage of it.

The end of Pax Americana is the beginning of hundreds of bloody conflicts throughout the entire world.

It won't be a world war, in the sense that there won't be an over-arching us vs them, but it will be global in that virtually no country will be conflict free.
