“They agree to wait until March for the drop-dead date, but all the same shit is still in there, including the still-problematic sequestration. Nothing has been lost (or gained) by either side.”
They can pass whatever laws they want to pass. I will not be paying any taxes toward the killing of unborn children.
If I’m going to be the first arrested by the Obama regime then so be it.
As President Jackson said - you have passed it, now let’s see you enforce it!
I’m betting Paul Ryan wasn’t there to vote, right?
I’m not a member of this idiot GOP and proud of it. Just hand over your dough to individual PAC’s like Palin’s and you’ll feel better. Get ready to pay the penalty for the IRS which I am gearing up for.
I don’t know if West is a phony, but I understand FL liberals are about to replace him with one of their own.
He voted yes.
I really don't think Ryan is going to vote to "shut the Gov't down" 6 weeks before this election.
He's lose FL overnight.
“I can’t help but think there’s more to this story since a number of people who voted against Obamacare voted for the CR”
The conservatives, including DeMint, realized that we couldnt get a better deal, or any real deal, so decided to punt and go with a CR. the CR then turned into a weak bipartisan nothing.
Sad but true... the entire 2010 election and the massive repudiation of Obamacare produced ... nothing of note. Not a single major Democrat policy was pushed back.
Now, we cant fault the GOP too much. They had the House, but Democrats had the Senate and the White House ... AND THE MEDIA. I think in the end, the cave of Aug 2011 was all about not getting reamed by the media as the scapegoat. Note that Obama STILL uses “those obstructionist Republicans” as his excuse for failure.
It will ALL go to waste if Obama is re-elected. This punt isa pre-cave if Obama wins.
The silver lining is that it is only a punt, and Republicans are ready to repeal Obamacare if we get the full Republican Congress.
Correction: Mourdock is running for SENATE against Donnelly who voted for Obamacare. Unfortunately, Donnelly may even win. It’s a close race.
“Shutting down the gov. right now will be ensure the Democrats win the WH and both houses of congress this fall because of the MSM. “
Exactly. The Republicans screwed this whole session in Aug 2011. They should have made last years budget the hill to die on, and go to the mat on lower spending there. They didnt.
we really have about 15 to 20 reliable conservative votes in this congress. many of these nos are rinos (like bono mack) and so called tea party freshmen look for cover.
this smacks of a pelosi tactic (releasing people to vote against for cover from conservative backlash) by boehner.
the shocker here for me is a yea for southerland. that will earn a call to his office from me.
Nice to see Tom McClintock in the “No” column.
i guess you “duntno” that the house has sole the power of the purse strings. all funding must originate in the house. boehner and cronies could have defunded obamacare anytime during this congress alone without the senate.
that failure (boehner and co) ended the people’s first attempt to stop obamacare. the second was ended by robert’s abdication of legislative review. as of now, because of both dems and repubs, obamacare is a fact. and that fact, if it stands, is the likely deathknell of the republic.
Excuse me while I barf!
Jake - many thanks for your insight. I was bewildered about this, but after reading your post, you’ve explained the rationale satisfactorily to me. It’s all about strategy.
Trey Gowdy(R) - NAY
Joe Wilson(R) (my rep) - NAY
Tim Scott(R) - NAY
Jeff Duncan(R) - NAY
Mick Mulvaney(R) - Aye
James Clyburn (token RAT) - Aye
Let's hope Linda Graham and Jim DeMint have the good sense to duplicate this effort in the Senate. (Truth be told, I fully expect Linda to vote for the CR.)

Since the Imperial President and the Aristocratic Senate do what they want the congressional races really don't mean much either. The House has and will do nothing to stop Obama from wiping his rear with the Constitution.
They're gonna have to pry that penalty from my cold dead hands. I aint payin and if they darken my doorstep they aint leavin. I've drawn my line in the sand. Eff them!
Screw that, I say we burn them at the stake.
They have burned this country to the ground. It's time we take it back from them.
DeMint will vote for the CR. He has already said he would and he has explained why to Mark Levin in August.
He said that he wanted to avoid a lame duck session where the weak Republicans would cave or agree to a bad deal. He said let’s get a CR and at the end of the CR (March) we will have a GOP Senate and President to undo the bad laws including 0bamacare.
This is looking at the big picture. He doesn’t like it, but he understands much bigger issues are a stake. He realizes if the GOP takes the Senate, which he expected, the Senate would be more conservative and would be able to address this issues.
If I’m not mistaken, the Democrats wrote ObamaCare to make it very difficult to defund. I would imagine a continuing resolution would be the wrong vehicle to do that.
