Republicans criticize four-gallon EPA gas purchase mandate
Daily Caller ^

With prices at the pump worrying Americans, Republicans have railed against the Environmental Protection Agency’s new gas mandate that requires consumers to buy at least four gallons when purchasing from stations with hoses containing 10 percent and 15 percent ethanol-blended fuel.

On Monday, Republicans on the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology sent a letter to Environmental Protection Agency Chief Administrator Lisa Jackson criticizing the agency’s approval of the sale of gasoline containing 15 volume percent ethanol.

Specifically, the EPA will require that consumers purchase a minimum of four gallons when buying from a gas station that sells gasoline containing 10 percent ethanol and 15 percent ethanol — also known as “E15″ — out of the same gas pump.

Then I don’t care.

These people have lobbies powerful enough to buy people and stop this.

They won’t, so they get what they deserve.

Yes there is.

When you pump your gas, you will be charged for a minimum of 4 gallons worth of gas regardless of what you actually pump.

Is this to reduce the lines, when they start rationing gas?

If you’re having all these problems, why aren’t you using E0?

or head down to your local airport and buy some nice 100LL.
No ethanol and a little bit o’ lead - double bonus!!

The farmers need to STFU and get out of the way.

No subsidies for anything. Especially these government-parasite “farmers”

You should only get what the market determines your crop is worth, and not a dime more.

OK. I get it. First, there's obamaCare, forcing us to buy insurance. Now there is an unelected bureaucracy demanding that we purchase what THEY want in the amounts THEY want us to buy.

It’s beyond time to quit using food to fuel our internal combustion engines. I can’t afford “gas” or corn flakes. Stop the madness!

Using your rationale, lets just say 4 gallons costs $16. I only take 1 gallon of gasoline, but still had to pay for the 4 gallons. The gas station just made an additional $12 off my purchase which the government will never see, becuase the 3 gallons I didn’t use will be reselled to someone else. Tell me in all of your infinite wisdom how that would legally hold up in court.

Tell me in all your infinite wisdom how GM could be taken from the bondholders and given to the UAW healthcare fund.

THEY DIDN’T SAY YOU HAD TO PUMP IT. These Tyrant B@$*&***& want a minimal gas pump fee. I you have a Motorcycle or only need gas for your chainsaw? Too Bad. Government, corn growers, and ethanol producers, make a fortune and don’t have to deliver an entire product. Look for GOP senators and congressman from Ethanol production related states to back it.

All you can do is use products to treat ethanol like Sea Foam or Stabil. It will not stop the effects of ethanol on your engines. It will maybe give you another year or year and a half before you replace fuel pumps, hoses, seals, gaskets, inlet valves and in some cases... rusted gas tanks. You might as well add some battery acid to your gas while you are at it.

Interesting. Being in Kansas, its hard to escape ethanol gas...but your link shows one, around 15 miles out of my way. I might become a regular customer.

I can never understand all the complaints about OPE problems on FR due to alky, when the alternatives are readily available (not that I’d give anybody advice to use 100LL in their OPE, wink wink)

The local outboard motor repairman recommends:

Sea Foam, motor treatment for gasoline and diesel engines. Not cheap, but when it is hard to escape with a repair bill from a small engine repair shop for less than $100 it pays for itself in the long run. O'Reily Automotive Stores sell it, as do others.

If you live outside a large city or in an area with lots of boating activity you may find gasoline that contains no ethanol. Just remember that the hose and piping in the gasoline dispenser will probably have about 2 gallons of 10% ethanol in it. I was pumping 3 gallons into my pick up tank before filling gas cans for my small gasoline engines.

2 - 3 years ago I started using gasoline without ethanol in my pick up. It costs 8% more, but I get 11% higher mpg.

Pure-Gas.org has a list of places that sell gasoline that contains no ethanol. It is listed by state then by city. Their lists are by no means complete.

" 4 gallons is too heavy"

2 gallons in the can, 2 on the ground. Problem solved.
