Something else I noticed about the "47%r's" is that they don't care what the "Government" does, as long as it is doing it to someone else.

Sorry. I want Obama retired and out of our lives but Mittens screwed up royally.
we too screw up using the 47% number. we lump in someone who worked 45 years and is living on SS with welfare queens. We are lumping in the genuinely disabled with scam artists. we are lumping in people who worked for decades and lost their job and would like nothing better than to get back into the workforce with people who have never intended to perform an honest days labor.
The message is supposed to be we will help you to get off the government dole. we can get you working again. If you’re living off SS after years and years of work by you or your loved one we will make sure you continue to get it.
The number of people on assistance or who pay no taxes is not the number to focus on. The number to focus on is all the people who pay taxes and all those who wish a better life. we neglect them as he seemingly did, at our own peril.

Never underestimate the ability to rationalize.

Good people can be corrupted by money just like bad people - check your politicians for examples.

The number of people on assistance or who pay no taxes is not the number to focus on.

Nobody is focussing on it except the professional bloviators.

MR said that we should focus on the others for the campaign.

Sad to have to bring this up but I did predict that if the GOP-e stuffed an unpopular candidate into the Republican slot we'd have a two party RACE TO THE BOTTOM

I"VE Looked closely and we seem to have never had a race where during the course of the campaign both parties ran candidates whose popularity levels actually declined during the campaign.

Basically almost any doufous can run for office and provided he's not really out of synch with the rest of his party, they'll be out there campaigning for their own office and for him. Candidates who are out of synch tend to lose though. So, this time we have two of these people ~ it does seem ~ and they will both lose?

I'd like to see some poll results where they tell us what their non response levels are ~ like if they call 100 people, do 20 of them answer, or 50, or 75? ~ or, is it more like they call 100 people and they are now getting just 2 or 3 responses ~ which is what would tend to give you a leveling of the competitors popularity levels.

BTW, what I've noticed about the 47% group is that it doesn't really exist. The number arises out of a misrepresentation of federal personal income tax information by a TV evening talk show book peddler who seems to have decided that he didn't want Americans to vote for Republicans anymore.

If you want to come up with a number that tells you how many people pay no taxes, you need to go down the list of taxes in this country and tell us how you avoid those taxes ~ and not just the federal personal income tax. I think even a mad dictator would be satisfied with such research since it would show that NO ONE gets out of this life in this country without paying taxes!

You may have missed my point. The real point is the number to focus on is not the number 47 but the the people who pay taxes and those who already have and those who would like to be working and pay taxes. Be more inclusive. Enlarge our pool of voters. He left himself virtually no room to grow. Hey how about we add the millions of liberals who pay taxes to the 47%? What do we have then? 60%? What chance do we have then?

There are plenty of things Obama said that should lose him the election. We just have to keep them on the radar. We’ll never run out of examples.

I both disagree with you and agree with you. My disagreement lies in the area of Social Security. Many Social Security recipients are not among the 47% who do not pay federal income tax. It really does not require that much additional income to cause Social Security payments to become taxable. My sainted 85 year old mother, for example, probably has no more than $1500 per month of additional income and does pay federal income tax.

However, I agree with you that, even in the context given by Romney in his press conference yesterday, his statement was foolish. Approximately 56% of those of voting age in the United States will vote in November. If the 47% that do not pay taxes are distributed proportionately among the voters and non-voters (a big if), Romney just told approximately 26% of those who will actually vote that he does not expect them to be part of his campaign. That is foolish on at least two levels. First, a candidate should never, ever give up on any voter. Second, it simply is not true that those who do not pay income tax have no reason to turn Obama out of office. Obamacare, his dismal job creation record, and now his foreign policy should not appeal to many of these people. This is not a one dimensional campaign focused only on taxes. In fact, taxes are a relatively small part of this campaign.

I agree with you. This has not been a good day for those of us anxious to see Obama retired to Hawaii.

Mitt screwed up?? How? He hasn’t casted a vote as a member of the House nor has served as President.

You are right, we do lump everyone together, but that wasn’t always the case, because Americans always worked hard and took pride in ourselves. That’s not the case today.

Its not just about the 47% who don’t pay taxes. How about the “earn Income Tax credit”. That’s basically taking my money that I paid in taxes, and redistributing to someone that didn’t earn enough to pay taxes in the first place. That cost us $60 billion a year, with over 23 million claims last year alone.

We are a lazy, do nothing, society, I won’t work for it, I want the govt to give it to me, or better yet, I will sue for my piece of the American dream.

America will need to dramatically fail, and nearly crumble under the weigh of greedy citizens... before we can correct the mistakes that put us in this position.

I’ll respond to just one of your posts. -)
Be serious. Are you suggesting he can’t screw up by word as much as deed?
Second i have no idea how whats apparently a pet peeve of your’s the EIC comes into the conversation.
Simple fact. Take everyone not paying taxes with the dedicated lib base,a great many of whom do work and what do we have left? Don’t forget we’re only starting with 53%. We don’t get to 40% that what we have left.

Actually Romney's dismissal of 47% of the voters in general is quite consistent with his all too easy dismissal of 40% of Republican voters who are Conservatives.

Now either he's got a really serious personal problem he's not telling us about or his campaign team are totally delusional ~ take your pick.

This should bother even his most ardent supporters!

Trying to recall if I"ve ever seen any politician give up a voter ~ just not popping up. Maybe a hard core Mittbot could pop in here and tell us who was the last guy to win office by dismissing voters.

You either embrace the truth or you embrace the lie. If we now live in a country where the truth is bad then they have won and good is evil. It is you that must choose.

Is 47% the truth? Or did he just make it the truth?
It juvenile to assume that everyone not paying taxes won’t vote for him. well maybe before he made that stupid statement but not after.

BTW, just picked up on another Romney tape where he says all he needs to do is focus on the 5 to 10% who are IN THE CENTER

That's somewhat serious ~ since there is no center ~ American political thought is not laid out on a broad spectrum from left to right ~ it's clumped up in two great coalition parties, neither of which is clearly of any one point of view or political belief.

That has to do with the effect of single member voting ~ you have to win 50%+1 vote to win, and the coalition partners shuffle back and forth over long periods of time (Decades even) seeking a winning situation for folks of their persuasion or categorization.

The last guy to win the presidency by thinking of a broad continuum was........? Well, the winners didn't. They looked at it as two relatively evenly matched coalitions who won by securing their base ~ and getting out that vote, and by seeking to peel off all or part of another coalition partner from the other party.

Major winners using this method were LBJ NIXON Reagan Clinton Bush ~

What this means is Romney is trapped in a belief that prohibits him from campaigning!
