Chick-fil-A, Chicago alderman strike agreement [Guess Who Lost?]
Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | 9/19/12 | Leon Stafford

Posted on 09/19/2012 2:33:05 PM PDT by madprof98

A Chicago alderman who had threatened to block Chick-fil-A from opening a store in his community says he will no longer stand in the chicken chain’s way after company leaders agreed to create policies that support the gay, lesbian and transgendered community.

Proco “Joe” Moreno said in a statement Tuesday that Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A has placed in a company document an agreement that directs its employees to treat people of all backgrounds with “honor, dignity and respect — regardless of their beliefs, race, creed, sexual orientation and gender.” The chain also said it would refrain from engaging in political or social debates.

Chick-fil-A leaders did not immediately return phone calls to verify that such an agreement had been struck.

*****

“This fight was never about “freedom of speech” or “freedom of beliefs,” Moreno said in the statement. “Despite common characterization, this fight was about ensuring the right of LGBT citizens everywhere . . . This fight was about justice.”

Been out of the loop and only read the excerpt here - which did not pass the smell test at all. Thanks for your post.

I see your position. You side with the enemedia and the gay mafia over a Christian company. Got it.

Show me ONE (1) link from a CFA spokesperson. Show me ONE link from a non biased newsgroup. ONE link from the CFA website ....

As I’ve said... Many FReepers have willingly drank the Kool-aid here. Open your eyes, FRiend. Even some of the enemy sources say “...alledgely...” and “...some are saying...”

Read this. It's an FR post of a Chicago Tribune article that is a little more skeptical of the claims about Chik-Fil-A capitulating. The reporter tried to get confirmation from CFA, but only got their long standing statement on the subject.

Moreno relents, will allow Chick-fil-A

So wait...

Chik-fil-A writes a letter saying outlining their existing policy and saying they will do essentially the same thing and the homo’s claim victory?

"I also made Chick-Fil-A promise to add Tabasco to its chicken
sandwiches and serve them w/ salsa, " said Proco Joe Moreno.

Since that was already their policy, who won again? CFA said this on day one.

I’ve been far from the Internet and FreeRepublic all day and was surprised to find this piece in the business news of the AJC. I did a search to see if anyone else had noticed this, and nothing came up, so I posted the longest excerpt possible, including a quote from the Chicago mobster claiming victory over the evil Christians.

Since that time, I looked at The Corner on NRO and saw the claim that Chick-fil-A also promised to cut off funding to pro-family groups that have been branded hate groups by the gay mafia. Is NRO no longer a legitimate source?

Sorry, folks, but this thread’s posts sound very like the ones that follow any articles claiming Obama leads in the polls. In other words, sour grapes.

http://www.salon.com/2012/09/19/will_chick_fil_a_stop_funding_anti_gay_groups/

In a letter addressed to Alderman Moreno and signed by Chick-fil-A’s Senior Director of Real Estate, it states, “The WinShape Foundations is now taking a much closer look at the organizations it considers helping, and in that process will remain true to its stated philosophy of not supporting organizations with political agendas.” Winshape, a non-profit funded by Chick-fil-a, has donated millions of dollars to anti-LGBT groups, including some classified as hate groups, such as Focus on the Family and the National Organization for Marriage. In meetings the company executives clarified that they will no longer give to anti-gay organizations.

But WinShape didn’t release the same comment to BuzzFeed. In fact, they refused to say anything conclusive, and seemed to lack self-awareness about having an anti-gay stance:

“We have no agenda, policy or position against anyone. We have a 65-year history of providing hospitality for all people and, as a dedicated family business, serving and valuing everyone regardless of their beliefs or opinions,” he said in a general press statement emailed to BuzzFeed by another Chick-fil-A spokesman, Jerry Johnston, who said the company’s press statement is not new. “The genuine, historical intent of our WinShape Foundation and corporate giving has been to support youth, family and educational programs.”

and that their “intent is not to engage in political or social debates...

But the real question will be for many who supported them: Has CFA agree to stop contributing to the pro-traditional marriage organizations which the gay protestors objected to, organizations CFA previously contributed to??

FU chic fil a..you’re an embarrassment and weak. and you should be ashamed after all the people took time and MONEY to come out and support your right to free speech and right to support any cause you like.

Dude, you'd be wise to start analyzing news articles instead of buying them, as we say, hook-line-and-sinker.

Why on earth would you believe some Marxist Chicago Alderman's story? Lie down for a while and get over it.

I also understand that Chik-fil-A’s foundation will give no more money to groups the gays consider haters...

If CFA has done that, then they've totally capitulated to the pressure from gay groups, and they've insulted all the folks who showed such support for them only a few weeks back.

I guess we'll have the truth fairly soon.

I'm still dubious....

So am I. Is Cathy really so blinded to the outpouring of support in August and beyond for his stance? Does he really want to jeopardize that massive support by stabbing in the back people with moral values?

I'm thinking that the sodomite lobby is just spinning this to create the appearance of defeat on CFA's part. It's what they do best - demoralize.

In our local news, the pastor at First Baptist Dallas is weighing in on it and blasting Chick-fil-A, so there is probably at least some truth to this story.

How, in less than 2 short months, can a strong stand for marriage, and the massive support that followed, disintegrate into grovelling acquiescence?

CFA has absolutely NOTHING to gain from this capitulation. The sodomites who hate them will continue hating them and boycotting them, unless CFA really goes off the deep end and starts supporting PRO-homosexual organizations and starts opening on Sundays. But even mild capitulation will alienate the crowds that made Chick-fil-A appreciation day a huge success.

However, I agree completely with the sentiment that CFA is taking a proper and legitimate stance here. The fact is that they're a restaurant chain, not a public interest or activist group.

This is a false characterization. Corporations, particularly large ones, nearly ALL get involve in civic activities that promote what is perceived as good for society. It's good business and promotes family values, a plus for businesses.

Home Depot is so heavily into gay marriage that people call it Homo Depot. You don’t see them apologizing for offending Christians and other traditional-family people. Many of the biggest corporations have foundations that fund abortion activism and anti-family causes. NOBODY changes their mind. NOBODY. So why did the Cathys cave???

I am wondering if the administration might have a dossier on them.

Go on over and visit Winshape's page and see if you can find any evidence that they ever gave money to pro-family groups.

From what I can see, they still support traditional marriage, but it doesn't look like they ever did any contributing.

It actually looks to me like Chik-fil-A solemnly swore to stop feeding chicken sandwiches to dead cats.
