Pew: Obama 51, Romney 43
Politico ^ | 9/19/12 | ALEXANDER BURNS

Posted on 09/19/2012 8:57:43 PM PDT by Qbert

The Pew Research Center gives Obama his biggest lead of the week, finding that he "holds a bigger September lead than the last three candidates who went on to win in November":

With the exception of jobs and the deficit, on which voter opinion is about evenly divided, Obama leads Romney on most key issues, notably healthcare, Medicare, and abortion.

And the survey, conducted amid an outbreak of violence in the Middle East and shortly after the killing of the U.S. ambassador to Libya, shows that Obama has a wide edge when it comes to foreign affairs and national security. Far more voters see Obama as a strong leader and as the candidate voters believe would use good judgment in a crisis. Voters also express more confidence in Obama than Romney to deal with foreign policy generally, as well as problems in the Middle East. …

Obama’s overall advantage – he leads 51% to 42% among registered voters – does not narrow significantly when looking only at those most likely to vote. Among 2,192 likely voters, Obama leads Romney, 51% to 43%.

So, in the last 24 hours we've seen a 5-point Obama lead from NBC/WSJ, a 1-point Obama lead from AP-GfK and this 8-point lead from Pew. While the top lines numbers vary from poll to poll, the consistent pattern is some edge for Obama on the overall ballot, plus a lead on most individual issues and a dead heat (or something like it) on the economy. If you consider the fundamental conditions of the 2012 cycle, the fact that Romney hasn't been able to establish a lead over Obama on economic issues is probably the most surprising stat of them all.

I don’t expect him to lose the debates. I still think he wins by margins looking like Reagan’s.

RE :” I think I will have a ‘better feel’ after the debates.

Maybe but you may not ‘feel better’ after the debates.

You know the biased in the tank liberal MSM we keep hearing about? Romney agreed to them moderating the debates.

Question 1 : “ Would you be willing to have your personal tax rate raised if it went to HELP hungry schoolchildren without shoes, even if that meant you have to pay the same tax rate as a waitress?

Question 2 : “ Who needs a tax cut more, the bottom 20% working poor or the top 1 rich millionaires and billionaires?

Notice Romney is doing the Sunday network political shows getting grilled by those above but Obama is avoiding them doing the entertainment shows.

On a more entertaining note, Sharpton was on at the gym and he asked Megan McCain for the advice she would give Romney to ‘turn his campaign around’. The interesting thing is Meg seemed to really like Romney and defended him on the show. He didn't ask her what she likes about him. That would have got him in trouble

Isn't MSNBC being fair and balanced by asking solid conservatives like Michael Steele and Meg McCain to give Mitts advice? I hope Romney DVRed the show because I am sure their advice will help him:)

This is insanity. I would never agree to this kangaroo court.
And we didn’t have to, either.

Wait till they ask him if Obama cutting taxes and not raising any taxes helped the economy. Or they ask him why he hates that 47%. or....you get the idea..

I don’t watch MSNBC (or Fox, hardly ever anymore) so I don’t know about the talking heads but the typing heads on the interwebs have always been confident of an Osama victory.

Romney winning relatively easy was and still is more likely than Osama doing the same but I always figured on a close race ala 2004.

Before the RNC Republicans were in denial about how Romney wasnt doing that great until that Romney spokeswoman replied to a question by praising Obama-care, then Ingraham and others came out and admitted that Romney was losing the election then it was Ok to say that.

Then Romney picked Ryan, they went to Florida worked on seniors and they held the RNC. In that period the polls started looking better for Romney and the Dems sounded worried on Dem TV and the networks were talking about that, MSNBC was complaining about the media.

But then the DNC got praised by almost all media including Hume and others on FNC and the roles flipped again, you could tell which side is confident due to the other side doing the victim talk about the media and that was no longer Dems, it was Republicans.

Lastly the Romney premature Libya comment and the 47% video tapes were Romney blunders and hurt him, I know the Rush media spin machine says that those BOTH were Romney finally being a Reagan conservative (GAG) and they will bring on a Reagan landslide, that is nonsense.

Romney knows he is losing and so does his campaign, here's how you can tell:

RE :”Not good.

This isnt to you specifically, but to those who lecture us.

I come to my own confusions, I dont depend on someone on TV or radio to tell me what to conlude even if they claim I must believe them to save the country.

For Romney to win he must act like a winner. We cant do that for him. If Romney acts like a winner and starts winning lines of followers will form behind him. It will be headlines.

We cant make that happen, not even by living in imagination land.

Lastly the Romney premature Libya comment and the 47% video tapes...

I agree about Romney's 47% comment, but if anything, I think Obama and his minions' attempt to blame a video is a bigger loser than Romney's Libya comment. Also, I think Romney's comment was correct, although he may have been lucky that what he said did not cause unforeseen consequences (as far as we know).

If I had been Romney, I would not have made this point so soon. From a purely political point of view, it is dangerous to open your mouth before the facts are in, because those facts may make you look bad. Plus, you violate the adage "Politics stop at the water's edge," which is generally a useful guideline.

My opinion is, as in the 2008 election, many will vote not for Romney, but against Obama.

That video was a gift to Obama and devastating to Mitt.
Romney is terrible R candidate to begin with not just because he had to take positions that are different than his, but more-so he is a living Democrat caricature of what they say Republicans really are, out of touch rich elites who look down on the voters they need and secretly hold them in contempt. Romney is the LAST person who could sell any domestic budget spending cuts, maybe cuts to the military and he is opposed to that. (there is a connection between the two)

So what does Romney do? He gets caught on tape telling rich donors he is giving up on lower income 47% of Americans, the ones who pay no income taxes.
This is loser talk that you save for after you lose as an excuse, as Obama would use voter ID as an excuse for losing. . The fact that it was a secretly recorded tape that Romney didn't mean for the general voter makes it look even worse for him,

This MR comment on MR-care is proof that Romney+CO know that video is killing them, he is saying Romney-care is proof of his compassion for Americans:
Romney cites his healthcare law as proof of his compassion LA Times ^ | September 26, 2012 | Seema Mehta
Compassionate just like Obama. right? See the trap Romney is in?

On a possibly positive side, the fact Obama polling so high early could trigger buyers remorse from many voters. But Romney HAS to stop saying stupid stuff. He is killing his own chances.

And I suspect that Obama's strategists had been saving it for the right moment.

Sept 11 2012 attacks on US embassies/consulates (challenging the notion "Obama killed Bin Laden and we all lived happily ever after"),

Sept 17 2012 Romney 47% video released.

Whatever happens, and if these polls turn out to be right and the fools in this country re-elect him, may they all be the first to get what’s coming.
