Iran pours more troops into Syria, ready to target Israel from Syria and Lebanon

Iran continues to fly military personnel and quantities of weapons into Syria by civilian aircraft which cut through Iraqi airspace, American intelligence sources disclosed early Thursday, Sept. 20. UN Secretary General Ban ki-Moon also said that, "Unfortunately, both [Syrian] sides, government and opposition forces, seem to be determined to see the end by military means."

Clearly, Iran is augmenting its military involvement in the constantly escalating Syrian civil war, broadening it into a multinational conflict which threatens to drag Lebanon in, by means of the Iranian-Syrian ally, Hizballah.

The UN Secretary General's statement implying that the two Syrian sides are determined to fight to the bitter end is echoed in Iran’s resolve to fight to the bitter end for Assad, on Syrian soil...

Obama has taken us back to the pre-911 danger level. Worse! We are more vulnerable now than we were before September 11th 2001. What a shame! So many of our troops gave their lives to make America a safer place.

With no US troops or aircraft left in Iraq to protect the Iraqi territory and airspace, this is a piece of cake for Iran. I suspect if they want to move large amounts of armor and troops through on the roads, it will be ignored or approved by the Iraqis as well.

After all, Iran is now the Strong Horse in the region. Iraqis can tell which way the wind is blowing just like everyone else, so there is no sense in causing Iran any trouble, right?

Nice job, Bamster. You've totally thrown away our strategic advantage that we sacrificed so much blood and treasure to secure. No doubt your Commie sperm donor would be proud of you!

I understand debka is sometimes not trustworthy but it makes sense, since Iran wants Israel dead, they would put military in Syria and Lebanon in order to attack Israel from there.

If Israel bombs Iran's nuclear sites, there will be an immediate attack from Syria/Lebanon land right into Israel.

A few on here have brought up the idea of an EMP created by a high nuclear explosion over Iran that wouldn't harm the people but would fry Iran's electronic systems. I think it would take a very long time, maybe years, for Iran to come back to have even power for electricity. However, that EMT likely wouldn't get deep in the underground where they have their nuclear “crap”.

These are perilous times in every corner of the world. One never knows what the next day's breaking news will be. One of these days it will be “Israel attacked Iran last night”.

Obama has taken us back to the pre-911 danger level.

Only if Obama invades Syria and Iran (which I think he and his idiotic followers want to do) would I blame him for this one.

This is shaping up to be the Islamic civil war that many FReepers have been predicting for years. Syria has had clashes along the Lebanese and Jordanian borders, Iran is pushing troops and weapons into Syria to prop up the Shiite governemnt, while Saudi Arabia has been pushing weapons in to the Syrian Sunnis. The same thing happened in Iraq - Iran was supporting the Shiites, Saudi Arabia was supporting the Sunnis.

Now I will not discount the idea that Obama wants to get us in the middle of an Islamic civil war, but I think this has been brewing for decades, if not centuries.

If the Sunnis can take over Syria's government, that pretty much leaves Iran and Azerbaijan as the sole Shiite-led countries, and Azerbaijan is not in a position to do anything other than support Iran. Iraq and Bahrain are not in a position to do anything either.

Iran is pretty much it - if the Sunnis can take out or neutralize Iran, they will be that much closer to their precious caliphate.

They would have a hard time - both Lebanon and Jordan are pushing troops to their borders with Syria, because Syria has fired into both countries recently or had clashes along those borders.

As I said, this is shaping up to be a full-blown Sunni vs. Shiite extravaganza that some FReepers were predicting years baack.

At this point, Iran saying anything about Israel comes across as more of a diversion, because their bigger problem is keeping Syria's government viable and offsetting the Sunni arms, money, and men flowing into Syria.

I'm not a betting man, but I'd say there is a good chance Syria goes down within the next 12 months and then the Sunni rebels start looking at revenge against Iran for propping up the Syrian government. Iran can send more and more troops in to Syria fight the Sunni rebels, but so far their efforts aren't doing a lick of good.
