Mia Love Surges Ahead of Jim Matheson in Recent Poll

Ramped up attack ads from Matheson signal desperation

Saratoga Springs – A recent poll conducted by Public Opinion Strategies indicates Mia Love has surged to a commanding 51-36% lead over Matheson. Mia’s message of reforming Washington is gaining widespread support from Utah voters, while Jim Matheson's support for Obama's policies have diminished his support for re-election.

With Mia Love surging among voters, Jim Matheson and his allies have resorted to false and personal attacks. Matheson and his Washington allies have begun a deeply negative campaign, attacking Mia Love, her family and Saratoga Springs. While voters have rejected these tactics, Jim Matheson stands by these admittedly false attacks.

Mayor Mia Love stated, “The support for my effort to change Washington and support Mitt Romney in Congress is encouraging. Sadly, Jim Matheson has turned to false attacks on my community and my family. Now is the time for Jim Matheson to stop his negative campaign. If Jim believes he wants to change politics, he should begin by changing the tone of his campaign."

Campaign Advisor Ivan DuBois said, “Unfortunately Matheson is playing the same old Washington games, letting his allies launch negative personal attacks and then claim he doesn’t care. With Jim Matheson’s support withering away, it’s really no wonder his campaign and Washington allies have become increasingly petty and desperate.”

Mayor Mia Love concluded, “This continued momentum and support is thanks to hundreds and thousands of Utahns who have joined our grassroots movement. We’re ready to take our country back. But our team will take nothing for granted and won’t let up in these final weeks – the stakes are too high, especially with Matheson and his Washington Democrat friends getting so desperate. My campaign will focus on the real issues as we continue to invite Utah voters to join us in fighting to restore the America we know and love.”

The poll indicates with just six weeks until election day that Jim Matheson is now in uncharted territory as a candidate. Jim has been unable to connect with voters and is flailing to find a way to keep his job.

I'm inclined to believe that the margin in real life probably isn't as big as this poll would suggest; however, for her to be up over Matheson at all is amazing, considering just how entrenched the Matheson name is among the Utah elite. And with all the momentum in Mia's favor, I would think that only a major gaffe would turn it back in Matheson's direction.

There's apparently a debate between the two of them going on tonight (maybe already done?). I'm not as close to things as I used to be - moved to NV in June.

I heard today she’s taking some really nasty hits on Twitter and even some death threats.

She was just on with Greta and mentioned the death threats, linking them to the leftists who support Obama. Mia appears to be a fighter! GO MIA!!!

He chose the 4th district over the now open 2nd district, figuring it was slightly better for him due to having some SLC suburbs he’s done well in. I don’t think he considered running in the 3rd against Chaffetz.

Well I’ve seen polls that had Matheson up by absurdly implausible margins. If Matheson wins it will be in a nailbitter.

I figure on a win in this race. Mormon on the top of the ticket is a big positive in Utah.

After watching those videos, you have to wonder how she would have done answering questions from a bunch of $50K/plate fat cats at Marc Leder's pad in Boca Raton on 16 May (video of which is here: Part 1, Part 2, courtesy of the bartender). Not that the actual answerer did all that bad, but you have to wonder.

I absolutely love that picture contrasting Mia Love and Sandra Fluke. A picture really is worth a million words in this case! Hope you don’t mind if I shamelessly post and send it everywhere I can because it really makes the point!!

I won’t slam Matheson just because he a (d) he has done many good things for Utah in his career. To be a (d) and survive in Utah says alot about who he is, just like his father.

That being said, since the repubs, can’t organize a BBQ without screwing it up, and the fact that Romney is the pres candidate, I’m supporting Mia, so we can at least try to control the things that get to the W H whoever is there in January...

imo

They’re (Mia Love and Jim Matheson) both LDS, and I worked on Jim’s father’s campaign for governor twice, back when democrats still loved America. The Mathesons are good people.

It fell apart for me when Jim supported Pelousi who supported the anti-colonial usurper in any and all efforts to make my republic a third world nation. That’s an unforgiveable error.

My money’s on Love.

Oh, one more for the outer-staters... Mia is TEA party. Certainly she’ll support Romney in a state in which he’ll likely take 90%+ of the vote.

I’d also like to express my admiration for or governor, Gary Herbert. He runs a lean, intelligent budget. You’ll find Utah at the top of states who are going to have NO problem with state pension funds... and that there is a rarity. Right to work, and fiscal responsibility. Utah!

I sent her $100 and “liked” her on facebook 10 min. after her convention speech- unfortunately, she posts 2 campaign events on facebook and multiple emails daily.

I found that after I sent Romney a donation after the "47%" remark. Now I get two emails a day.
