Why Fox News is souring on Sarah Palin: 3 theories (take it for what it's worth - trash)
The Week ^ | 9/28/12 | Examiner.com, Huff. Post, New York

Sarah Palin's increasingly testy relationship with Fox News took a turn for the worse this week, when she wrote on her Facebook page that the cable news channel had canceled interviews she had been scheduled to give during the network's coverage of the Republican convention. Palin was supposed to appear on Fox on Wednesday, the same night that Paul Ryan, her successor as the GOP's vice-presidential candidate, was speaking. Fox executives say Palin got cut simply because time was tight after the convention was condensed from four days to three in the wake of Hurricane Isaac. But this is far from the first public clash between the former Alaska governor and her employer. What's the real story behind the souring relationship? Here, three theories:

1. Palin is not the star she was when Fox hired her Four years ago, Palin was the darling of the GOP, says Scott Paulson at Examiner.com, but she threw that away when she quit her job as governor of Alaska. She's "not even a politician anymore." Face it: With her relevance in the Republican Party fading, Palin's "extended 15 minutes" of fame are running out. And fame is what made her valuable to Fox.

2. And her ratings don't justify her monster salary This is "a classic display of Sarah Palin being, well, Sarah Palin," says Gabriel Sherman at New York. But her Facebook outburst also "reveals something deeper" about Palin's rocky relationship with Fox. Palin is the cable news channel's highest-paid contributor at $1 million a year, but Fox executives are disappointed with her ratings. Her contract is up in January, and Fox is weighing what kind of renewal to sign, "if they sign one at all." Palin, disappointed that she's not getting top billing, is pushing back, but she shouldn't press her luck.

Not much worth if HuffPo contributed to this report.

Well I'm a fan of Sarah Palin as a politician but not so much as a Fox commentator. In my opinion, she never brought much to the table at FoxNews. I really wish she had done more to help the GOP in this election cycle. I thought she'd be a major factor in this election but she's pretty much been a non-factor.

Really wish she would get back into politics, even if it was running for senator or running a campaign for somebody who was.

If Zero0 gets reelected or if Mittens bombs out, guess who will start making sense as the one we should have elected in the first place come 2016. Sarah!!!!

I have the feeling the liberals in the Republican Party didn’t want Mrs. Palin around.

Palin caught the “rock star” bug and sold out for personal gain. I don’t blame her in the least. Then again, I personally won’t count it a great loss if I never see her nor hear from her again, in either an infotainment or political role.

Just my 2c.

I’m surprised how many conservatives don’t get that they are no longer wanted in the Republican Party. The only reason Ryan was chosen as VP candidate was to entice conservatives to vote for Romney. But Ryan is just a puppet, a sham. He has no influence on the campaign whatsoever. And should Romney/Ryan get elected, Ryan will have no influence on administration policy either.

I agree. I love Sarah but she's not enough to get me to watch Faux News reliably.

One possibility is she isn’t good at commentary. Seems she doesn’t add much insight when I hear her. Remember it took Reagan decades to perfect his communication skills.

Sarah doesn’t cotton much to scripted pre-approved comments. She’s her own person and her comments are right off the cuff and likely not Bill O’Reilly’s way of doing things at Fox News (Bill has a lot of say on that network IMHO - look at his non-relationship with Michelle Malkin). Instead they value the commentary of Geraldo, Alan Colmes and other regulars who epitomize liberalism.

This is utter idiocy. First, Sarah Palin doesn’t schedule herself on the network; they schedule her. To make it sound like she was peevish at the cancelations is just another way to try to attack her. Because everyone has noticed one thing: her endorsed Senate Candidates have been winning primary after primary. Her endorsement is literally GOLD to those whom she endorses. The money just flows into their campiagns once she blesses their candidacy. There is NO ONE - on either side - who has that kind of endorsement power that she does. No one.

If I were FOX, I'd also question the expenditure. However, I'd love to see Sarah more involved again. We need her voice. Senator is probably the best option, since she likely won't want to take a step back as Governor. She also needs to spend time in the lower 48. As Senator, she'd draw some fire.

She's too great of a resource to lose her.

I don't think she was serious as a politician. If she were she would have gone back home finished her term and boned up on policy issues.

She could do stump speeches for candidates and get her act together.

Reagan did this for years and it paid off.

I think she just wanted to cash in.

I really wish she had done more to help the GOP in this election cycle. ... I thought she'd be a major factor in this election but she's pretty much been a non-factor.

Answer: Karl Rove, operating at long distance using a lazy butler and two intermediary cut-outs. Karl does like to tie people up to take them out of the mix -- without their knowledge, preferably, but the fingerprints are usually there.

In 2000, Rove wanted to get Ralph Reed of the Christian Coalition out of the way, because Rove was engineering a "reconciliation" between the GOP and tons of homosexual-lobby money (Log Cabins, other gays). So he arranged for oil/energy mogul (and future federal prisoner) Ken Lay to hire Reed as a political consultant/lobbyist at a lordly salary, and then bury him in a thorny power-development project in eastern Tennessee. That tied up Reed all through the political season -- he hasn't been heard from since. And this was a guy who once was a magazine cover at the height of his influence.

Karl Rove likes to divert the career trajectories of people he wants to disappear from Republican politics.

Sarah escaped the toils of the RatRoots and Ankle-Biters by leaving the governorship of Alaska, which had unusually powerful accountability laws that would have tied her up indefinitely and impoverished her.

Now she has to escape from her contract with Fox .... which, notice, expires in 2013. Don't expect that they'll offer her another contract. They only did this as a favor to Rove in the first place. The raison d'etre of her job is about dead already.

And yes, I wish things had turned out much differently.
