School May Install ‘Trash-Cams’ To Spy on Kids Tossing Veggies
Fox News ^ | 10-3-12 | Todd Starnes

Florida school district is considering a plan to install surveillance cameras on cafeteria trash cans to monitor what kids are throwing away – after they discovered that students were tossing out their federally-mandated fruit and vegetables.

The Lake County School Board said more than $75,000 worth of vegetables have been thrown in the garbage. The veggies and fresh fruit are party of the Obama administration’s policy to force schools to provide healthy produce in lunch rooms.

“It’s fairly specific recipe of what they would like us to serve,” Lake County School Board member Tod Howard told Fox News. “Unfortunately, much of it has to do with fresh fruit and vegetables and it seems to be going into the trash. And that’s not okay.”

So Howard suggested the district attach security cameras to the trash cans to monitor exactly what is being thrown away.

“It will also give us documentation so that we can go back to the federal government and say here’s what we are finding,” he said. “We do know there’s an issue.”

Here’s a crazier idea. Stop giving out EBT cards, welfare, and free medical. Then its their business and not yours.

Why wouldn't you just look into the trash cans after lunch period instead of recording and paying someone to watch hours of trash can video ?

Because this is not about what goes in the trash but about who is putting it there. This is about enforcement.

This is designed to scare the kiddies into not binning the Moochelle mandated foods they don’t like.

Absolutely. You can bet if your kid is one throwing their veggies away you'll be getting a visit from Child Protective Services. That's the only thing could be about.

Gee, I guess I’ll just have to throw it in another trash can.

The children will pocket the unwanted foods and get rid of them otherwise. A stink will rise from the other trash bins

You do realize that a 1/4 pounder contains a serving of veggies? In fact 4 oz of meat, slice of cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, salad dressing, and a serving of bread is a fairly nutritious meal.

You have obviously been conditioned by the leftists about so called 'junk food'.

Why don’t you eat their veggies for them. Eat all you want, your body your choice or is that only for sex?

When I went to school my bunch was a pretty fun loving group.
I can picture my bunch giving the camera the finger, dumping veggies on the lens spitting on it,or even stealing the camera and sitting it up in the girls bathroom.

Kids today have no vision.

They don’t even recycle the unopened milk cartons that come off the kid’s trays. You should see the waste!

Already done. Years ago my mother was a dietician and many of the periodicals she got had articles about kids in schools tossing food in the trash. I believe they called it “plate waste.”

Foodstamps shouldn’t pay for junk food so why should government lunches? If parents really want their kids to eat french fries and chickens nuggets everyday for lunch then they can pack a lunch.

If the government is paying for or subsidizing school lunches, then the kids can eat their greens. When I was a kid my Mom always made a small salad with dinner. I guess that is a strange concept these days.

Yes I know a nation is outraged that the Honey Boo Boos of the nation can’t get her free twinkies at school, but she’ll just have to wait until her parents use their foodstamps to buy them when she gets home.

In the meantime, here’s an apple.

Or just taser kids who don’t eat the veggies first.

The solution is to get government the hell out of it.

I despise people that think it's ok to use the power of the government to enforce what they think is the 'correct' lifestyle.

I'm waiting for a black market of junk food to develop. I'm sure kids could get rich by selling candy and soda. Then the schools will have to respond by suspending those students just to teach them, and all the rest, a lesson.

New slogan:Mandated food......turning kids into criminals.
