School May Install ‘Trash-Cams’ To Spy on Kids Tossing Veggies
Fox News ^ | 10-3-12 | Todd Starnes

Florida school district is considering a plan to install surveillance cameras on cafeteria trash cans to monitor what kids are throwing away – after they discovered that students were tossing out their federally-mandated fruit and vegetables.

The Lake County School Board said more than $75,000 worth of vegetables have been thrown in the garbage. The veggies and fresh fruit are party of the Obama administration’s policy to force schools to provide healthy produce in lunch rooms.

“It’s fairly specific recipe of what they would like us to serve,” Lake County School Board member Tod Howard told Fox News. “Unfortunately, much of it has to do with fresh fruit and vegetables and it seems to be going into the trash. And that’s not okay.”

So Howard suggested the district attach security cameras to the trash cans to monitor exactly what is being thrown away.

“It will also give us documentation so that we can go back to the federal government and say here’s what we are finding,” he said. “We do know there’s an issue.”

Have you ever had a nutrition class? There’s a reason we have casseroles. Children’s taste buds and olfactory systems are quite different from adults. Often the only way to get children to eat (what to them is horribly foul tasting) vegetables is to disguise them in something else. Thus things like casseroles or a hamburger with lettuce and tomato as was mentioned. It’s kind of common sense. Plop some unseasoned green beans on a plate and good luck getting a kid to eat them.

Forcing fascism on the kids? Sounds like they’re conditioning them.

Because they really want to know which kids are throwing away the food.
Next step is to haul the parents into the Principal’s office and force them to watch a video featuring Moochelle condemning them for not forcing their kids to eat their vegetables.
It’s time to fight back.

Already happened. Heard it on the news. Some enterprising young capitalists were selling spoonfuls of chocolate syrup, and other stuff which I can’t remember. LOL.

I expect it is a combination of two things, foods the kids are unfamiliar with and unseasoned veggies are rather tasteless if not picked at the right time.

A fun example: I often bring a Kugel to pot lucks, I generally get one of two reactions. What is that?; or Kugel!, I want some.

Kugel is a type of bread pudding, mine has a lot of fruit in it. I think everyone has their own slightly different recipe, the guys at the Hillel House used to have fun guessing what I had actually used that week, since the fruits could differ.

The students are just doing a modern interpretation of dumping tea in Boston harbor. Maybe they should get extra credit in U.S. History/Government.

“I expect it is a combination of two things, foods the kids are unfamiliar with and unseasoned veggies are rather tasteless if not picked at the right time.”

I can’t agree with that assessments for the reasons I posted earlier. It’s unlikely many kids are getting fresh picked vegetables, and it still wouldn’t matter. That’s why in a basic nutrition class one learns how to incorporate vegetables into a child’s diet creatively and mostly by hiding them by being combined with something else. Believe me, I was surprised (ages ago) to find that pizza was a sound, nutritional food. It has a protein (cheese), a vegetable (tomato), a grain (the crust) and of course other toppings can be added and other vegetables disguised in the sauce. It was considered one of the better fast food picks. Also, there’s basic Psych 101- try to force a child to do something and they all the more will rebel against it.

This about enforcement of the edict. Identify the kids dumping the food, then fine the parents for their kids wasting government resources. The fines will increase with each instance of resistance by the kids. If the fines don’t work, then it’s off to the reeducation centers.
