Let’s get the obvious out of the way:Barack Obama lost last night’s presidential debate. The question is how badly it will hurt him.
Heading into last night,the president enjoyed a lead of 3.1 points in the Real Clear Politics polling average. The margin was roughly consistent with where the race has been since Romney secured the Republican nomination in the spring,but it did reflect a slight tightening over the past week. But the immediate verdict from voters who watched the debate was clear,with 67 percent saying Romney fared better in a CNN flash poll,compared to just 25 percent for Obama. In CBS’s poll of undecided voters, Romney was the victor by a 46-22 percent spread.
Over the next few days,Romney stands to reap some significant benefits from what happened in Denver:
* The best press coverage of his life. Well,that’s probably overstating it, but Romney is in for the most favorable stretch of media treatment he’s received as a general election candidate. Since late August, when Republicans staged a dud of a convention,Romney has been portrayed as a candidate in decline, and Obama as a resurgent front-runner. There was good reason for this. Democrats put on perfectly choreographed convention, Romney suffered through the release of the devastating “47 percent” video,and polls confirmed that the momentum was squarely on Obama’s side. Anything short of a clear victory by Romney on Wednesday would have perpetuated this narrative. But he turned in the performance he needed (with a huge assist from a bafflingly docile Obama) and has given the media a new storyline: Romney’s back in it – now we have a real race! At least for the next few days,it will be Romney who is treated as the candidate on the rise,and Obama as the one desperately seeking to contain the damage..............

The next debate is supposed to be on foreign policy. Very high risk for Obama. Too many tense situations around the world, the direction of which are completely beyond his control. My bet is that he blows up a couple of aspirin factories the day before and then begs off.
Oh, definitely. Their talking point was “Romney was not specific.” Like Obama has EVER been?? Obama could never have been specific about his stupid obamaCare; the bill is thousands of pages. Why would Romney want to be specific about which deductions (loopholes) he would do away with? Some will hurt.
I think what we’re seeing here from the left is a shocking realization that they’ve been duped. Their guy isn’t that smart.
As much as I detest Harvard graduates, professors and their ilk, I have to admit that Romney came out of what is their toughest program (the combined JD/MBA) with very high marks.
We don’t know what Obama’s grades were - anywhere. Last night, people of all stripes suddenly might be thinking “Hmmm..... I wonder if he made his grade secret because they reflect what we saw last night...”
And when you look at things now, Obama by lying to us and costing us money for his political gain, OBAMA HIMSELF looks like the heartless one.
There is about a 43% floor that will vote for a moldy loaf of bread if its a democrat but there are some Democrats who are followers of the bandwagon too and there are those who only supported Obama because he seemed “cool” and “all that”.
Well the last 2 groups might only be 5% of the electorate but their bubbles were certainly burst last night. Those are the really dispirited ones after last night.
Obama is not cool, they saw him get schooled by Romney and the bandwagon might be following Romney starting today.
People keep thinking about this wrong.

It wont matter what Obama does in the next debate is TWO WEEKS! Romney will have racked up a MASSIVE lead in early voting between now and then.
I think Romney locked up North Carolina, Florida, Iowa and possibly New Hampshire last night, and moved Wisconsin and Ohio the leans Romney category.
and there isn’t a darn thing Obama can do about any of this for two weeks!

As far as Romneycare vs zer0care, remember that Romneycare is a State issue, not a Federal one. That makes a huge difference, IMO. States have the right to do as their voters choose. The Feds are the creation of the individually Sovereign States and need to remember that.
I agree that there is no tax “credit” for off-shoring jobs. Companies do it because they need a local presence or the expense for wages will be less. There may be some tax “savings” in the US because the company does not have to match Social Security and Medicare witholding for those employees, but that is certainly not a credit, and the company also has to adhere to the labor laws in the off-shore location.
If you look at it from the point of view that liberal think that obama is the smartest president, ever, that he is a great orator, and that ALL Republicans are knuckle dragging Neanderthals, then you can see why they are so upset. Simply losing would have been bad. Losing in such a fashion is the coming of the end!
I believe so. But, that's not just for oil companies. It's used by all resource extraction industries (i.e. mining).
The best way I know to describe depletion allowances is that it is like depreciation. The value of the asset (the land) declines due to the removal of the resource. It's just like depreciation on equipment. However, most people don't understand depreciation anyway.
If you want to eliminate "depletion allowances" ok, then let's have that debate w/ much lower marginal rates, but that will have to be down the road...
Actually, that's exactly what Romney said: he effectively said he was willing to get rid of it in order to lower corporate tax rates to 35%.
From what I see we had a golden opportunity to see affirmative action in motion last night.
The way to win in the current political environment is to get the base out to the polls. There are not enough undecideds to matter.
I believe there are already reports of a coming Lybya strike.
