Denver schools’ rebellion not the one they wanted
The Washington TImes ^ | 10/8/2012

Students in the Denver Public Schools need to know reading, writing and ‘rithmetic, but what about the fourth “r” — revolution?

District officials have scrambled to respond to a public outcry over language in the new teacher-assessment criteria that describes a “distinguished” teacher as one who “encourages students to challenge and question the dominant culture” and “take social action to change/improve society or work for social justice.”

The district’s “Framework for Effective Teaching” also said teachers would be scored on whether “Spades students appear comfortable challenging the dominant culture in respectful ways.”

John Peterson, an East High School social studies teacher, said he didn’t think spurring students to buck power fell under his job description.

“I think our job is not to challenge the dominant culture, but to prepare students for college or the military or the workforce, and be productive citizens,” Mr. Peterson said. “‘Working toward social justice’ typically comes as code words from the far left for big government programs and a redistributionist philosophy.”

Arne Duncan, Bill Ayers, Valerie Jarrett, Obozo and Michelle will leave their mark on the education of the children unlucky enough to be sentenced to their Marxist philosophy. Their destruction will take DECADES to repair.

on whether “Spades students appear comfortable

I'm showing my age. In my day, that was a pretty strong racial slur. It is considered politically correct now?

The irony here is that, at this school, the teachers ARE the dominant culture. But I’ll bet that students who choose to work “to change society” in ways these teachers disapprove of will be penalized.

...the new teacher-assessment criteria that describes a “distinguished” teacher as one who “encourages students to challenge and question the dominant culture”...

Great, when do we go into the Hispanic areas of Denver and start evangelizing them to act more white-toast American? ... What? What do you mean that's not what you meant? Surely you're not prejudiced, surely you want to apply this "ideal" equally...right!? {snort}

PS - not picking on Hispanics, pick any cultural group the left typically "celebrates" at the expense of American culture.

Seems that the dominant culture in the public eduction system tends to be liberal.

And that dominant leftist culture definitely needs to be challenged, undermined AND demolished by any means necessary.

Good for John Peterson. I am glad he spoke out (and the parents too).

I am an East Angel having graduated very proudly from that fine institution ( many years ago). We did NOT need instruction on how to respectfully disagree. Class romms were open to discussion and dissent with out needing any input from the teacher to help us counter the prevailing culture. What a load of horse crap. The teachers who see that rubric ought to hang their heads in shame

Yeah, the "Spades" thing has to be a typo. The sentence can't be forced to make sense in any way unless it's a partially mangled acronym of some kind.

Interestingly, you will find the entire assessment handbook here: http://leap.dpsk12.org/LEAP/media/Main/PDFs/2012-13-Handbook---09-25-12.pdf

Neither the word "Spades" nor the phrase "students appear comfortable" appears anywhere in the text. However, the Times article may be taking these words from one of several summaries which are available on the same web site.

Even without the precise language cited, the document itself is a fantastical pile of post-modern gobbledegook, an orgy of self-congratulatory nonsense, and a guide to nothing having anything to do with teaching but everything to do with indoctrination; both of teachers and students. It is interesting to note, for example, that a teacher that performs the job of teaching students subject matter would actually receive the lowest qualification under this putative "assessment," while a teacher who teachers students nothing at all but encourages the correct kind of thinking will receive the highest assessment. ["Correct" as used in the .pdf has a clearly sinister meaning which has nothing to do with the actual English word except that they are spelled with the same letters in the same order.]

Read the PDF. The document is actually FAR, FAR worse than even this article describes it to be. Keep a bucket handy, and if you pray, pray hard for the students and teachers in this commie hellhole.

“Public school is child abuse.”

Yep.....it is much more sinister, though—it is indoctrination and conditioning (with the help of TV) into an ideology of Marx/Satanism. (BF Skinner methodology that BK Eakman, J.T.Gatto, Charlotte Iserbyt AND TONS of others-— have all documented —the insidiousness of the curricula from the DOE. You can google them on youtube.

Curricula in US/world was designed by psychologists/perverts to condition children into “group think”. and immorality. The methodologies are very sophisticated—but easy for any psychologist to understand if they are looking for it. I saw it in the 70’s with “Situational Ethics”-—forcing Moral Relativism onto children and trying to flip ethics—so evil becomes good and visa versa. Homosexuality is used to destroy Christian Ethics and sexualize and corrupt the minds of children.

It is evil to “tolerate” evil...and our kids are being taught to be the Good Germans-—to watch as Hitler annihilates the Jews and takes away their property and rights without saying anything-—except a few “intolerant” Germans who were killed like Pastor Bonhoeffer.

Children are being taught it is evil to discriminate-—which is essential to healthy life and to avoid evil. For character formation young children HAVE to learn Good and Evil—which is blurred intentionally by the teachers.

When they become adults—they reject Absolutes and Judeo/Christian Ethics which this nation was founded on.

They try to do this to the Texas schools whenever the curriculum is up for debate. Looks like they found another path - teacher performance and awards based on their promotion of leftist, anti-white, anti-American socialist propaganda.

The Unions never stop and we only block them half the time at best.

Whenever one hears terms such as “social justice” or “diversity” being praised, run. Something foul is no doubt to follow.
