Obama Weighs Retaliation for Attacks in Benghazi (aspirin factories on high alert!)

Obama Weighs Retaliation for Attacks in Benghazi, Libya, That Killed Chris Stevens

As the clock ticks on a decision about whether and how to target suspects in the Benghazi attacks, intelligence officials say the president might lose his shot if he doesn’t act fast. Eli Lake reports.

President Obama has vowed to bring justice to those behind the Sept. 11 attacks in Benghazi that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans, but the president hasn’t chosen what kind of justice that will be. Five administration officials tell The Daily Beast that the White House is now weighing whether to pursue those responsible through law enforcement or via military means like drone strikes or special operations. Ambassador Christopher Stevens Barack Obama

The delay from the White House could allow specific intelligence on the locations of suspects to whither on the vine if the suspects flee the country and evade detection, according to three U.S. intelligence officials working closely on the manhunt in Libya. A list of so-called high-value targets is now residing at a Pentagon office responsible for contingency special-operations planning, according to two of those U.S. intelligence officials.

The existence of the list was first reported this week by The New York Times. It was compiled with input from several U.S. intelligence agencies and is being constantly revised and edited as new information comes in to the CIA’s Counterterrorism Center. Some U.S. intelligence officials say there is enough detail to begin military operations to kill or capture 10 of the operatives tied to the planning of the attack.

The fact that there hasn't been a military strike speaks volumes.

Zero is getting killed in the press as stories accumulate showing that security in Benghazi was botched and inadequate. A military strike nailing bad guys would take off the pressure on the Benghazi stories just as Barry seeks any way to stop the bleeding in the polls.

There are several possibilities. One, the intelligence isn't as good as advertised. Two, Jarret or somebody else is taking Barry out of a strike in case it goes bad. Or three, they're saving it for later - like around the time of the third debate on foreign policy.

My guess is three, because the press will lionize Barry as the warrior king and it will take the wind out of Mitty's sails on the Libya issue.

In retaliation, the White House issued a sternly worded letter, expressing their disapproval of the actions of the oppressed and offended horde who were offended by the homemade video dissing the Prophet.

I agree... But they will wait until the most key witness appears (whomever that is).

Democrats love to claim that Republicans use foreign policy to distract from domestic news, but nobody took it to the extreme limit like Clinton did. He bombed a pill factory on the day Monica Lewinsky testified (with not one notice of amazement or wonderment from anybody in your mainstream press), and then he bombed Bagdad on the same day he was being impeached by the Congress… And once again, your press acted as though it were just business as usual.

It was the two most blatant uses of fire power for domestic political purposes that I have ever witnessed, and I must admit this… It was very scary to me at the very least, and maybe in the same way that it must have been scary for many Germans when Hitler committed unconscionable action, after unconscionable action and if anybody did complain, it was drowned out by the majority of news broadcasters and journalist who didn’t scream ‘bloody hell’.

Yeah.. With the polls looking so bad for Obama, I’m sure there are a great deal of his advisors whispering that distraction is the only gambit they have left. Given his lack of knowledge and inability to actually lead, he’ll surely rely on their advice.

To quote one of my grandfather’s favorite punchlines: “You gonna talk or you gonna fish, Warden?”

Less talk, more boom.

Yep. Expect an attack - any attack - in retaliation for Stevens the day of the foreign policy debate.

Ah, it's been nearly a month since the attacks. The opportunity to "act fast" was gone weeks ago. hussein is really looking for what options he has that give him some kind of political advantage, and how he can spin it as some kind of retaliation for the attacks. Not buying it hussein, not buying it at all.

Blow up something or it ain't gonna make the papers, says Axelrod.

The week before the election O'Rambo will have a couple of itinerant goat boys or sheep herders
atomized by drone missles and claim he has wiped out the Al-Qaeda high command.

Though I appreciate the levity, the truth is that this could turn into another Blackhawk Down or Iran Rescue debacle. Not to mention the number of potential civilian deaths for the purpose of bumping Barack’s poll numbers.

CBS, ABC and WaPo have all done very unflattering stories on the Benghazi situation in the past week. Oddly, the most brutal stories are coming from the Daily Beast, which is a Newspeak spin-off, but the reporter, Eli Lake, is a very good national security reporter.

As for NBC and NYT, well...they just wish the story would go away. No coincidence that they're the most in the tank for Zero.

The levity was a rough debate quote from GWB x43...
(Who was mocking x42's lack of military prowess at the time...)

....And was intended to make precisely the same point!

Well said..
