I do have a question that needs to get an answer. Why didn’t Romney/Ryan have an answer ready for the Loopholes and Deductions line of attack?
Romney was a stand out winner and Obama was a stand out loser in their debate, and Biden had to make sure that this did not happen in his debate with Ryan. He succeeded. Oh, Ryan won the debate for sure. But Biden's behavior has overshadowed Ryan's performance post debate. But why not try to win?
The Obama team knew going in, that Biden would lose in a civil debate. The Obama team already suffered a humiliating defeat, so Biden's job was to merely hold the line, blunt Ryan's message, and keep the debate performances from further drifting towards the Romney team. A clear loss for Biden would have done that. Instead, this was more like two men running a 100 yard dash. Biden knew Ryan would win, so instead of competing, he grabbed Ryan's shirt and held on during the race so that at the end, he crossed the finish line mere feet behind Ryan. He lost, but it wasn't the standout finish Romney had in his 100 yard dash with Obama.
The stage is set now for Obama to try to come back from his own disastrous debate. The debate conclusion of many is that Ryan won - barely, and Biden was an ass. And that was good enough for the Obama team.
