The presidential debates have elicited abundant boxing metaphors, which as a former boxer and coach can always be entertaining. Boxing only works so well as a debate analogy because unlike verbal sparring, there are no predetermined spans of offense and defense. In debates, both speakers are supposed to get turns. At least, before Joe Biden obliterated the Marquis of Queensberry by incessantly interrupting his challenger Paul Ryan.
Biden boxed brilliantly even if it wasnt pretty and drew little blood. Before last nights bout, reporters asked Biden if he would rope-a-dope?
Biden boasted, You ever see me rope-a-dope?
If you recall, Muhammad Ali bested the much younger and ferocious punching George Foreman in Zaire by resting against the ropes covering up, while the champion punched himself out. Foreman, who generally knocked opponents out quickly, ran out of steam. Ali turned it on once Foreman was spent and reclaimed the Heavyweight crown with an eighth round KO.
What Biden did was more akin to James Bonecrusher Smith, who in 1987 surprisingly took Mike Tyson the distance in a championship unification bout. Smith held Tyson from start to finish, never letting him land his customarily vicious shots. Then Smith threw a few haymakers to no effect and lost an otherwise forgettable fight.
Thus went Biden.
Biden did nothing but clinch and hit off the break (illegally) throughout, which the referee strangely allowed. Queue the fight was fixed conspiracies. Biden interrupted Ryan 82 times. Martha Raddatz, who was supposed to be an unbiased referee, interrupted the exceptionally polite Paul Ryan 31 more times (as compared to 19 times over the boisterous Joe Biden).

Dead on!
I thought what he did made him look like a Dope without a rope.
Someone pointed out that Biden trained for his facial expressions by watching “The Shining.” I thought that was a GOOD comparison!

Is the article suggesting that Ryan should have bitten off bidens ear?
More like Biden had 2 choices - rope-a-dope and hope or bite off Ryan’s ear.
Naw. What Ryan should have done is waited until Biden showed a big toothy smile and then told him there was a piece of spinach lodged in front.
