Poll finds Romney leads by five points in swing states
CBS News ^ | October 15, 2012 | Lindsey Boerma

Mitt Romney is leading President Obama by five percentage points in critical battleground states, according to a USA Today/Gallup poll out Monday - a gain the survey suggests is linked to a spike in support among women.

The poll shows Romney ahead, 51 percent to 46 percent, among likely voters in 12 swing states: Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Women typically trend Democratic: In 2008, female voters chose Mr. Obama over Republican Sen. John McCain by a 13 point margin. Now, according to USA Today/Gallup, Romney is tied with the president among women who are likely voters, 48 percent to 48 percent. He is leading by 12 points among men.

"In every poll, we've seen a major surge among women in favorability for Romney" since since the first presidential debate, veteran Democratic pollster Celinda Lake told USA Today. "Women went into the debate actively disliking Romney, and they came out thinking he might understand their lives and might be able to get something done for them."

But the Romney camp shouldn't celebrate yet, argued Obama pollster Joel Benenson...

If he wins tomorrow night, imagine the polls later in the week.

Ya know vet. You constantly post some of the best posts on here.

As to the polls. Romney folks need to run like they are 20 points behind all they way to the election.

I will continue to say that till its over and the fat lady sings.

At this point, such polls must be used as propaganda of “bandwagon” effect to increase support. Even women are now going for Romney. Come on Latinos and Youth. Don’t you want to be on the winning team?

The increased support among women could at least partially be attributed to the Joe Biden effect.

Totally true. During the debate, I was wondering how women would feel about this mean old man bullying this respectful young man.

I think Ryan’s level head and calm demeanor didn’t hurt either.
Not to mention he’s hansome.

Whatever, you/I/we believe, will only count in the final tally on Nov. 6th.. I’d rather believe we are 1% behind at the present time, and the final outcome we be determined by the extra folks that I bring to the polls on election day..

My single vote will be the determining factor in ridding this nation of the cancer that has infected our country for the past 4 years..

Our future rests entirely on my back, but I am getting old, so if you have any faith in providence, or the Murphy’s Law principle, maybe you should have a back-up plan, in the outside chance I’m wrong.. I know, right?.. :)

New Mexico is only 5 EVs, but Romney is down 10 here (Johnson has 6%). So, Romney must have a better edge in key swing states considering he is behind (slightly) in PA and MI. Looking good if he can contine the momentum past debate number two - he could score most of the swing states.

Later in the article, one of Mr. Obama’s pollsters tries to explain how a poll of “registered voters” is MUCH more accurate than one of “likely voters” even though history suggests just the opposite. Next they’ll lie about which date the election falls on, at this rate.

I suspected the same thing...would be interesting to see if there was a shift right after last Wednesday.

I really think 0bama is going to come on way too strong because he believes he has to to make up for the first debate, and he thinks that because the fawning media loved Biden’s performance, he’ll have to be just as aggressive. He still won’t have any real answers, and Romney will. 0bama will just up the swag quotient. But the people, especially the independents and undecideds, were turned off by Biden, and they will be turned off by 0bama if he tries it.

I think that is exactly what it is. Biden messed up. Women like Paul Ryan even when they disagree with him politically, and many did not appreciate seeing Biden act like a disrespectful blowhard towards him.

Obama’s effort to blame Hillary for the debacle in Lybia is the death knell for his campaign. It’s not because of his unwillingness to accept responsibility, it’s because he has just given every hard core liberal woman a reason not to vote for him, he has thrown the leader of their cause under the bus. Obama is not only losing more independents, he is losing liberal democrat women. They may not vote for Romney, but hey won’t be voting for Obama either.

...”I was wondering how women would feel about this mean old man bullying this respectful young man”...

Most women are maternal enough to really chafe at the kind of bullying Biden dished out against Paul Ryan, who exudes respect and character. Any fair minded person had to feel insulted, as an American, to have such a man as our Vice-President. Joe Biden told some whopping big lies at that debate, too, which is always insulting and shameful.
