Boston, MA -- WRKO-AM 680 announced Wednesday that "The Kuhner Report" with Jeff Kuhner will take over morning drive from 6:00am - 9:00am, starting Thursday, November 1. Kuhner, who has been and will continue to host from 11am until noon, replaces Todd Feinburg and Michele McPhee.
Commenting on his expanded role, Kuhner said, "I am truly honored and happy to be at WRKO. This is a wonderful opportunity and my goal is to create the best morning talk show in Boston."
Jeff Brown, Vice President and Market Manager for Entercom Boston said, "This caps off a season of positive change for WRKO. It's the right move for our two most important customers, our listeners and our advertisers. Needless to say, I'm excited about our future."
Kuhner has been with WRKO since January 2012 as a weekly guest on the radio station. He has filled in on every daypart as well, and his one hour show, dubbed "The Fastest 60 Minutes in Radio," launched this past August. Additionally, Kuhner will be a regular contributor to WRKO.com with blogs, columns and weekly podcasts.
Kuhner, who has made the move to Boston, will continue to serve as the lead political columnist for The Washington Times. His column, which appears every Friday, is consistently one of the most popular in The Times' commentary section. Kuhner is also the president of the Edmund Burke Institute, a Washington think tank. He did his doctoral work at Ohio University and taught U.S. history at McGill University in Montreal from 1998-2000 before deciding to make a career change to journalism. He has made numerous national radio appearances and served as a frequent guest host on "The Savage Nation."
"Jeff has made an immediate impact in a very short period of time and has demonstrated that he's ready for a bigger platform," said Jason Wolfe, Vice President of Programming/Entercom Boston. "The positive reaction to his 11am hour has been simply overwhelming and his fearless, honest brand of talk makes him appointment listening."
"Jeff Kuhner is a rising star and I'm very happy to have him as part of the WRKO team," added Assistant Program Director Bill Cooksey.
Howie Carr list ping
Sometimes when Entercom Happens, it’s a good thing!
Agreed! The news just broke. These announcements seem to be made just before 3 pm. That’s when we got the news that Rush was back (and CC was killing off Talk 1200; in a related story, Clear Channel just launched all-comedy in 12 more
markets.) Also when we got the news that WODS was dumping oldies for “Amp” hit music, etc.
I knew Todd and Michele wouldn’t last long. I like Todd but she’s too annoying.
Jeff Kuhner and Howie Carr will make excellent bookends to each workday. Now stick Michelle McPhee in the middle and you have the perfect talk radio sandwich!
Both Imus and regular guest Taibbi had a good laugh about the death of Andrew Breitbart. Taibbi that day had posted his reaction to the news of Breitbart's death.
Andrew Breitbart: Death of a Douche
So Andrew Breitbart is dead. Heres what I have to say to that, and Im sure Breitbart himself would have respected this reaction: Good! F*** him. I couldnt be happier that hes dead.
Imus has a great staff that has kept the show on the air but enough is enough.
Yes...maybe his show could even be syndicated someday in that morning drive slot.
Imus is still on some stations like WZAN 970 in Portland ME
Ugh. I guess sucking up to Michael Savage has some benefits. My local talk radio station just replaced Savage with Michael Berry who I much prefer to Savage’s daily egomaniacal bipolar ranting.
From Todd’s FaceBook page:
“Hey Friends - Sad news, I will no longer be doing the morning show at WRKO, as Feinburg & McPhee was canceled this morning effectively immediately. We’re in talks to find some other role for me at the station, but as of now I’m without a microphone.
I’ve spent 9 wonderful years at WRKO and give thanks to everyone, from management to listeners, who’ve made that possible. It’s a great station, and
I am honored to have spent 5 years hosting mornings there. Special thanks to Tom Finneran (4 1/2 years) and Michele (2 months) for putting up with me as co-host, and to Jason Wolfe and Cooksey for their great programming support.
Please stay in touch with me here and at toddtalk.com and follow me on twitter @toddtalk “
That station’s been going downhill ever since they let Dale Dorman go.
I like Kuhner in limited doses, but I’d prefer Todd for the morning drive. I can live without McPhee.
Hopefully Todd will land a gig somewhere soon.
Are your eardrums celebrating?
4 am for me ouch! Guess i’m going to have to get out my dar fm recorder, Kuhner in Boston, almost unbelievable that he could find an audience in such a liberal la-la-wasteland. Kuhner is to the right of even Michael Savage
He’s been doing the 11am-noon shift since August - “fastest 60 minutes in radio” - “Jeff Kuhner - liberalism’s worst nightmare” - “Jeff Kuhner - cleaning up the liberal mess” and he’s been holding back on the “INKS” - people in the listening area couldn’t get enough of him, they demanded more air time for him - they don’t know what hit them, they are hanging on every word - he’s not only doing the 6am-9am shift but they are allowing him to continue doing his 11-noon shift as well. Every once in awhile he slips up with the “INK” but for the most part he has it under control, he is also doing commercials so he’s got to keep the “INK” in check. AND he’s not like the golfer and others, he doesn’t spend the first hour and a half yakking, he takes call after call after call.
I don’t have a dar fm recorder but in my case I have a stereo hooked up to my comp and use software (AudioRecordWizard5,
$25 or so) with a timer (free Audacity has it too). Or I could go to RKO site and stream it then go to bed and record via timer.
And parts of Jeff’s show are podcast on WRKO site
Yea, well it’s not exactly a recorder but a website that records the shows for me. it’s called dar fm, a real life saver for the talk radio junkie.
Maybe one day Merry-Lu-Levin will show up with her Kuhner ping list
