Staten Island residents are furious. They feel that in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy theyve been ignored and left to fend for themselves.
CBS 2′s Jessica Schneider toured the borough on Thursday night and saw one home on Cedar Grove Avenue that looks like it was torn to shreds by a tornado.
However, it was surging ocean waters that tore the house apart, and filled others with more than 10 feet of water.
Its that type of apparent neglect that has left residents saying they havent received the attention or help they so desperately need.
Red Cross is here with hot chocolate and cookies. We need blankets, we need pillows, we need clothing. We can get hot chocolate and cookies, we need help! resident Jodi Hannula said.

Hello, we are from the government, and we are here to help you......
Now folks, be of good cheer. This weekend you will have a marathon and all will be well!
Sent this to Hugh Hewitt, Tuesday night:
Hugh,
Nice idea, that NJ and Gov. Christie would invite out of state contractors to help.....
But the Mob would be quite upset, missing their cut of the Union Dues and contract graft.
New Orleans, Katrina, anybody recognize a pattern here?
Bush was EXCORIATED for saying “Heck of a job, Brownie”, and doing a fly-over of the devastation, without going in on the ground.
Former Mayor Nagin, meet Mayor Bloomberg.
Bump
Tell Obama “Heck of a job, Brownie!” and you’ll be called a racist.
Ahhhhhh.....New York. A bastion of rugged American individualism.
Ouch !
Why do people expect FEMA right away?
I’m no expert, but from observing what happened in our area this past year, immediate relief comes from...National Guard, Salvation Army, Red Cross, catholic relief services, church groups, spontaneous volunteer groups.
These are the people who load up trucks and send in necessities.
Red Cross is supposed to be the immediate help in finding shelter.
FEMA shows up, sets up areas to distribute info on applying for help with rebuilding or instructions on temporary housing.
FEMA sends reps out to meet with local officials in addressing the needs for schools, businesses & other groups that need to figure out how get up and runnning again.
So when I see my liberal FB friends bashing Romney about his FEMA comments? They really do think there is such a thing as FEMA coming to town and saving everyone?
ummmm.....no people.
There was several days’ warning on this, plus the long-term warning of just living by the coast. No excuses for not having blankets & food.
The Left Scheme Media has FEMA-nized this nation into absurdity regarding Federal emergency relief expectations.
True...and the mayor on Staten Island is justified in blasting the Red Cross for that.
What my point is....there seems to be a misconception that FEMA is this immediate responder group that swoops in to save everyone.
It isn’t.
They do eventually show up and instruct people how to apply for aid, but they don’t bring blankets and food.
except if your house got destroyed with all your supplies.............
“You’re doing a heck of a job ‘Brownie’.”
Once again it is considered a “gaffe” when Romney says something that is true.
Of course, any “Brownie” references related to Obama will be decried as racist.
Mark
These people must be RASSISS!, or phobic, or sumpin’.
How DARE they make a fuss, this close to the media messiah’s election!
