WPS Health Insurance announced today that it is adjusting its resources in response to competitive pressures and recent losses in the government contract market. The company will adjust resources across the corporation. Staffing impacts could affect 600 positions, though this number is subject to change. The actual adjustments and timeframe depends on the outcome of protests and additional opportunities.

Adjustments will occur in phases over the next year. Notices to staff will begin as early as November 2012.

Recent activity in the company’s government business lines makes the reductions necessary.

Evidently WPS in Wausau Wisconsin didn't get the memo about not announcing any layoffs or job cuts before the election, as this announcement comes just before Obama returns to Madistan on Monday. Not that it will matter to anyone there, but (fortunately for them), Wausau ain't Madison...

For the record, WPS HAD the old contract, and was low bid on the new one.

There are plenty of Obama lovers working there, so I guess they’ll take one for the “team”.

You’re right, sorry for the error. The original story was sourced on the Wausau newspaper site and FR wouldn’t let me link that one due to copyright complaints, so I had Wausau on the brain.

Obamacare is already wreaking carnage with medical facility job losses. Democrats have done themselves proud with creating havoc in the lives of middle class people attempting to earn honest livings. May they be shown the political door in the senate and White House next week.

St. Jude Medical cutting 500 jobs in another round of layoffs

Snip: In August, St. Jude said it had terminated 300 employees, including 80 in Minnesota, as part of a broader companywide reorganization expected to slash $50 million to $60 million in costs in 2013.

But on Thursday, St. Jude revealed in a regulatory filing that it had eliminated an additional 500 positions -- still as part of that restructuring. St. Jude officials would not say how much additional savings it expects to reap from the most recent layoffs. About 100 of those 500 displaced workers are in Minnesota, said company spokeswoman Kate Stoltenberg.

Kaiser Permanente lays off 84 in Southern California; union officials say more to come

Snip: "We have heard as many as 550 employees in Southern California and 450 in Oregon are expected to be laid off," said John Borsos, secretary/treasurer of the National Union of Healthcare Workers.

Cigna to layoff 200 in Connecticut, Despite Malloy Initiative

Snip: Cigna Corporation has announced it will lay off 1,300 employees, including 200 in Connecticut.  The insurance carrier was the first recipient of Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s “First Five Initiative” last year.  In return for receiving millions of dollars in taxpayers’ money and incentives, Cigna promised to add 200 new jobs in Connecticut.  The company insists it is not violating its deal with the state, by issuing 200 pick slips.

I’ve read those or similar reports and was struck by how much “restructuring” is going on - but few if any of them say this has anything to do with Obamacare. I guess they expect us to believe the gov’t can take over the healthcare industry without even making a ripple...

this will leave a mark in Madistan. If i remember right having lived nearby and worked in the liberal capital of the Midwest, WPS has a large complex in southeast Madison (actually Monona) just off the belt way with a large parking structure and an additional parking lot. Just wondering if WPS lost its contract with Medicare too. The joys of what is to come with ObamaCare, the cutting of medical insurance companies will start in January 2013. Just found out today the local pharmacy cannot get injectable Vitamin B12 because the suppliers are out of it, and cannot get more.

WPS was awarded Medicare contract in Michigan this past year. We are in the middle of our Cost Report (I work at a large hospital). I just sent this to our Director....wondering the same thing, if they will lose the contract.

This is a new one, from today's list. Surely these companies are preparing for Obamacare, no matter what "formal" excuse they give for the layoffs. If Obama is re-elected, the healthcare system in America will already have begun its trancendence into inferiority from superiority.

WPS Health Insurance to lay off up to 600, mostly in Monona and Wausau

Snip: WPS Health Insurance said Friday as many as 600 employees will lose their jobs over the next year, primarily in Monona and Wausau, because of contract losses.
