Perhaps the regime was using this to blackmail Petraeus into cooperating with their “story” on Bengazi, and perhaps he could not take it anymore, said f*** it and called their bluff and outed himself, though admittedly a day late and a dollar short

Actually, he tried to invoke the Soldiers and Sailors Civil Relief Act during the Paula Jones Suit, claiming that as CinC, he was covered as a member of the armed forces.
