I hate to burst y’alls bubble but this is the same old oil shale that has been referred to for a long long time. It is immature kerogen. It is not mobile and has to be heated for extraction. This is the same oil shale Exxon and others tried to exploit in the Book Cliffs near Parachute, Colorado.
Been there and done that 30 years ago.

The operative clause in the article is “trying to unlock”.
It is still there, the potential resource is immense. This is also the same resource that obastard just sequestered 1.6 million acres of I believe.
This is just feel good hype brought to you by your “friends” from obastardland. More feel good hopium for the proletariat. Do you want to join them in believing this crap?
You are correct, but think of the marketing potential:
"It's not regular, dirty petroleum, it's GREEN petroleum!"
Yeah, and bait for more Solyndrazation.
And from what I remember, there ain’t enough water in the West to mine the stuff and crack it.
See post 14, what do you know about using microwaves and what the Israeli’s have done?
Been there near about fifty years ago. Did my undergrad work in Colorado. A professor took us there and the rocks in the
fire ring burned. Ah we couldn’t even take a beer along on the outing.
OBTW the smell of the burning rocks was rather overpowering.

The use of Thorium reactor “ovens” could provide the long lasting, cleaner radiation, energy sorces necessary for the “heated extraction processes necessary. Water used could be recycled. It would just take national will to accomplish this!
