Republicans say they will not back down (Boehner hangs tough)
the hill ^ | 11/14/2012 | By Russell Berman

Congressional leaders took a hard line on taxes ahead of a meeting Friday at the White House, with rank-and-file Republicans expressing opposition to a “fiscal cliff” deal that would bring in more revenue to the government.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has said Republicans could accept new revenues, but not tax-rate hikes, as part of a broad deficit deal, but President Obama and Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said it was unlikely that eliminating loopholes and capping deductions could raise enough revenue to gain their support.

I will just enjoy the moment.

You will enjoy the moment when Boehner caves.

And you call Boehner a traitor to the cause?

Surely Republicans can find someone far better than the sissy Boehner, his guy killed the tea party enthusiasm of 2010 with his guless leadership.

Good! Yes, we will all pay the price but I hope it teaches the idiots who voted Obama that he doesn't care about them, it's always about himself.

Sounds to me some of those tough young GOP turks (Tray Gowdy, Jason Chaffetz, etal.) may have jammed a ramrod right down Boehner's gullet in a meeting.

I'd hate to have those guys (who are doing a real number on Obama vis a vis Bengahzi) give ME their steely-eye.....I'd cave in a freeper minute!

I know people in a small midwestern town and they are importing foreigners to work in the factories there. It is VERY cheap labor for the factory owners. But the taxpayer picks up the tab for all the extended family that immediately goes on welfare, drags down the school system, and floods the small hospital ER with uninsured deadbeats who use it for primary care.

Don’t know for sure, but I’m assuming the factory owners are Republicans. At any rate, this is the type of crony capitalism that panders to the rich and the poor and squeezes the middle class. The rich profit. The poor get their freebies. The middle class pays for all of it.

That’s why the Republican Party caves on nearly everything. That, and the fact that they are only interested in preserving their power and good ol’ boy high-paying do-nothing jobs.

We must never forget that it was Mister* Boehner who traded away 500 billion in precious defense dollars for ... essentially some magic beans (to arrive at a later date, number may vary, may be substituted for beans with little or no magic associated, and may or may not involve actual beans.)

Mister Boehner has absolutely no gift for bargaining, and no sense of the consequences of serious errors. Any casino would just LOVE to see Mister Boehner walk through their door.

*I say "mister" as opposed to "Speaker of the House", because SOH is so far above his abilities.

(Full disclosure, I liked this post fro a previous thread so much that I re-cycled it.)

I think Republicans should oppose every single thing the Democrats try to do. Obama will just enact it anyway via executive order.

I think you’re right. The GOP sells out social conservatives every chance they get. For example, you know they’ve wanted an immigration amnesty for years. They’re not even all that fiscally conservative. Standing firm on tax increases while doing absolutely nothing to reform spending or slow the accumulation of debt is NOT fiscal conservatism.

You will enjoy it if Boehner caves.

That tells me all I need to know about your sham patriotism.

I would never predict that Boehner will ultimately be heroic, but as long as he’s hanging tough, we need to support that.

That concept would be utterly unknown to tobyhill.

He never refrains from a chance to drum up discontent here on FR.

Its like when your local government claims they will keep property tax rates from going up...but then increase assessments so you wind up with a tax increase while they can claim they held rates in check.

Precisely!

A possible type of response Republicans can make to President regarding raising taxes on the rich:

“We want to do anything and everything possible to solve the problems of this country. Show us how your proposed tax hikes on the rich will really fix our economic problems. If you can do this with real numbers, we will agree. However, we are not here to target one section of the population and simply raise their taxes to get revenge on them or out of envy.

This was a gimmick Perry used in his re-election campaign. He was going to cut property taxes and even told what the average person would save. The local assessor here in Houston contacted Perry’s people and told them the figures didn’t add up but they kept running with it. All that ended up happening was the appraisals went up.

Had he done better in the primaries you can bet this is one thing that would have come up.

This is the only way conservatives can win (marginally). 1. Pass a bill making the Bush tax cuts permanent.
Let the democrats defeat it and blame them for increasing taxes on everyone.
2. Do nothing and let the sequestration cuts take effect.
Sure the military will get cut, but do we really want Obama using it anyway?
3. Refuse to pass any debt ceiling extensions.
Force the government to cut services. Who really gives a crap what services are cut. We don't need any of them.

Exactly. I don’t believe these Republican whimps for a second. Boenneeer, or however it is spelled, is correctly spelled “limp-livered whimp.” This gutless guy has to go. But who will take his place? We need a firebrand unafraid to fold over anything. I do not see anyone in the party who qualifies.
