After Democrats Gain Across the Country, Conservative Voters Wonder Where They Fit
New York Times ^ | November 18, 2012 | Jack Healy

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — By now, voters here are over the initial shock. The ranchers, businessmen and farmers across this deep-red state who knew, just knew that Americans would never re-elect a liberal tax-and-spender president have grudgingly accepted the reality that voters did just that.

But in the days since the election, a blanket of baffled worry has descended on conservatives here like early snow across the plains, deepening a sense that traditional, rural and overwhelmingly white states in the center of the country are losing touch with an increasingly diverse and urban American electorate.

“It’s a fundamental shift,” said Khale Lenhart, 27, a lawyer here. “It’s a mind-set change — that government is here to take care of me.”

As the share of white voters — and white men, specifically — shrank in this election, exit polls showed that turnout grew among black, Hispanic and Asian voters, who supported President Obama and more than compensated for his losses among whites. An analysis by the Pew Research Center found that minority voters made up 28 percent of the electorate, up from 26 percent in 2008, a proportion expected to grow.

“Welcome to the next America,” said Paul Taylor, executive vice president at Pew. “Whatever that vote looked like this year, four years from now it’ll be more so, and eight years from now it’ll be even more so.”

None of this assures election wins for Democrats. The tide of minority voters that helped elect Mr. Obama in 2008 ebbed just two years later in a welter of populist anger over deficits, job losses and Mr. Obama’s agenda, allowing Republicans to retake the House and make gains in the Senate in the midterm elections. And there is no guarantee that the next Democratic presidential candidate will match Mr. Obama’s huge margins

The Republican advantage is a lower abortion rate among white Republicans. The Democrat disadvantage is a far higher abortion rate among black, hispanic, and white Democrats

Still, the birth rate among Black and Hispanic women is higher than White Women, though the gap is narrowing the past several years due to the crappy economy.

In 2004, Bush won reelection with 50.73% of the popular vote. In 2012, Obama won reelection with 50.66%.

We know how 2006 turned out. The NY Times is whistling past the graveyard -- but they're pretty good at that. I don't see anything that Obama has proposed that will improve the US economy -- and the Obamacare mandate will make life much worse for many of his voters.

“He has no similar gift to offer in his second...”

There is always Amnesty. That could well give the Dems a permanent edge.

What happens if it comes out that there was voter hacking? Does that mean Obama can be impeached?

I wish I were as optimistic as you, the GOP are past masters at pulling defeat from the jaws of victory, it seems, willfully, sometimes. I now believe it’s because what they purport to stand for-the so-called “party platform”-is but the platitudes they fob off on us, while their true agenda is a globalist corporate one. It’s the same in Europe, they’re just ahead of the curve in being open about not anymore being a true, traditional conservative party.
Our GOP has had to deal with us “bitter clingers to guns and religion”, two things which haven’t been factors in Europe for a while.

The way the Constitution was written states control voting rights. Using that fact, folks interested in broadening the franchise were able to do it a state at a time.

Why is Fox News silent on the issue of voter fraud? You made very good points why it is difficult to understand how Obama won legally, it seems that someone broke the law.

As the Democrats begin to slide into biological oblivion they will strike out ~ with real hitmen.

After this latest 10% drop that should occur to them pretty soon as an idea whose time has come.

We'll need to prepare for that.

According to what they really think at the Times, they will fit nicely in a FEMA camp, gas chambers to follow. I think it that, now that the republic is dead, it may be time that we have to get them before they get us.

You’re assuming that those aborted babies would be democrats or liberals. You’re also assuming that the unaborted children of republicans will also grow up to be republicans.

Teenagers tend to rebel against the parents and their beliefs.

I’ve seen children of liberal families grow up to be conservatives and children of conservatives grow up to be liberals and in some occasions jailed for misconduct.

Political status is not part of DNA. I would say the NEA would have more to do about it than genes. It’s the NEA, not the DNA we have to worry about.

Well, the Democrats have another advantage-they don't have to have children themselves because they control the government indoctrination centers and the media and popular culture so all they need is access to your children, and in most cases they get it-people simply will not make the required sacrifices to educate their own children and block the left's access to indoctrinating them. They won't stand firm on being the filter for their children's access to popular "culture", they don't want to be the "mean" or "uncool" parent. There are ways to protect your children from the left's infection and have them respect you for doing so. For one, let them know that they are more important to you than the culture by not partaking in it yourself.

TV is dying and from the same reason the public schools are dying ~ technological advance is making it possible for us to control our own entertainment and our children's educations.

This stuff is getting much better than you realize, and most of the best materials have already been produced by religious and culturally conservative folks.

So you are saying that only male property owners should get to vote on their futures?

Interesting theory.

I own quite a bit of property and a business. I am also a conservative. I am also a woman. And I know plenty of women in the same situation.

So I should have no voice? I guess no male property owners voted for O?

I am more in favor of voter id, literacy tests and maybe drug testing (/jk) to solve this dilemma.

Like I said, interesting theory.

As it turns out the growth of Conservative numbers is a reciprocal of the number of abortions over time.

We are winning, and being Conservative, to a degree, appears to be something controlled by our DNA.

Amnesty for everyone is part of the plan for replacing voters. Also, getting criminals the right to vote again. Eliminating the electoral college helps them as well. Vote fraud is easier when you only have to concentrate on big cities.

As far as real hitmen goes I think that the big push for homosexuals in he military is an effort to make sure that the military does not consider the Constitution paramount.

1) Most conservatives are against the killing of unborn babies no matter what their color or creed may be.

2) 160% turnout for Obama two weeks ago in some places and 112 year olds registering to vote democrat tells me that those aborted babies will be voting anyways.

What say you?

I think you make a good point, but in most cases those children begin to see the wisdom of their parents conservative values as they start families of their own. Church attendance goes up after a couple start a family.

I'm well aware of your point with children in college.
