Thanks for posting this.
Rather weird hearing the narrator talk about “cost - benefit ratio” of a missile defense system.
The script says it’s a “low cost” system — but I’ve read that the ID interceptors cost a LOT more than the cheap Qassam rockets.
The Arrow Missile is the just a variation of similar programs authorized by the US Missile Defense Command to develop and provide data back from Germany, Japan and Israel. There are four countries that benefit directly from one another’s research and development.

Part of the cost is if the rocket kills a bunch of people.
Cost estimates seem to range from $50K - $100K per missile. That is waaaaaay more expensive than the unguided rocket they’re intercepting ($10K or lower?). They counter by predicting an impact point - and, if it outside of a populated area, let it go.
Personally, I’d surround Gaza with artillery and launch massive counter-battery barrages with the INTENT of causing massive collateral damage (as well as destroying the launcher and killing the crew). And I’d keep drones up to see if we could actually get the launchers first...
Well, yeah, when the Philistine rockets can be made of sewer pipe with fins welded on, and have no guidance system, they’re not going to cost much. Unless you count damaged sewer systems into the cost.
Exactly. Kills people and destroys things. Rather hard to calculate the “cost” of dead citizens. Kind of like the cost/benefit calc that Ford did on the Pinto. People don’t like being considered a hard, calculated “cost” in war.
Crikey! That’s some serious, er, stuff.
I’ve seen estimates of sub $1,000 for the Qassam rockets and $50k for Iron Dome interceptors.
There's some camcorder video up there as well that's fairly impressive.
Ouch.
500 to one cost ration is prohibitive. Hamas could bankrupt Israel with big enough salvos...
The Israelis should just make the Gazan Arabs pay with their lives and massive infrastructure damage. And they should cut off power, water, access to medical care, etc. And, for Heaven’s sake, don’t give them any more money!
What Israel really needs is an effective counterbattery system that obliterates the launch site within a couple of minutes of the firing.
